I'm planning on buying my first car soon. A 2002 P73 Crown vic. Is it worth it for a first car or even a car in general? Link is here for the ad

>Buying a sub 2003 Crown Vic
Retard.
>>
Tue chassis and frame was improved in 2003, it would be much better to get one of those and newer. If going below 2003, go with a Town Car for cruising or I'd look at the LT1 Caprice/Impala ss for speed.
>>
>>13833668
this.

as for a panther platform being a good first car, I'd think so. it is mine. it's safe and reliable. easy to fix / mod / learn on, and parts are relatively cheap. na v8 and RWD.
only cons are size (which is subjective), gas mileage, and public opinion (which may be more a problem in america, dunno about canada).
>>
>>13833781
>OHC
>easy to mod/learn/work on

Not really, no. If you want a shit mileage car, that's easy to do those things on, but could also be a fun car, get a 5.slow mustang. And if you can't afford insurance or any of that shit, you need to git gud, or you have no business making automotive your hobby.
>>
>>13833830
>And if you can't afford insurance or any of that shit, you need to git gud, or you have no business making automotive your hobby
fuck off.
>>
Then what would you recommend for a spacious car with some power?
>>
>>13833861

Not him but if you seriously can't afford $100 per month then you can't afford modifying your shitbox and you're just going to wreck it. If you live somewhere where insurance is like $500 per month, then may God have mercy on your soul.

>>13833874

Get a Crown Vic, they're good. They're not fast but I've seen a lot of 4.6 2v go over 400,000 km without an issue
>>
>>13833830
Already had a hand me down 3.9 Mustang 2002 a few years ago. Hated how small it was
>>
>>13833874
LS400s can be had for cheap, are comfy as fuck, and are fairly reliable if maintenance is done.
They also don't have the stigma of the CVPI
>>
>>13833629
This

Buy a 04+ vic
>>
>>13833936
these are nice if you can find one that isn't molested.

>>13833950
really you want a 06+ vic, or just buy a marauder
>>
>>13833924
How fat ARE you? I've driven mustangs since the early 90s at 6'3" and hover around 240lbs. The size of the car has never once been an issue.
>>
>>13833978
110lb. 6ft 2
>>
>>13833960
where are you that they molest LS400s, they don't even really do that in the bay area, it's the civics and camries that get fucked for the most part.
Properly molested (VIP) LS400s don't look terrible though.
>>

I'll look into it
>>
>>13833936
Seem to quite a hard car to find in my area. Any other recommendations?

A Caprice with a LT1 5.7
>>
Avoid pre-2003 Crown Vics, and ideally shoot for 06+. Better suspension, more reliable, and slightly more power.

>>13835520
That's an Impala SS.
>>
>>13835700

So, a Caprice with a 5.7 AND a different badge?
>>
>>13835700

Which is literally a Caprice with the 5.7L.

In my experience the older Panthers are more reliable. If he does get a newer one I suggest one that's been retrofitted with the aluminum coolant crossover or came with it stock, the plastic ones all break. Never had that problem in 270k in my '95 because the intake wasn't plastic.

I will say the changes in '03, especially the switch to rack and pinon, has a much more connected feel to the road though.

It's shit compared to any of the mid-30s MPG I4s you can get for similar prices.

>mid 30s mixed
https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymodel/2000_Honda_Civic.shtml

I think you're confusing highway mpgs with mixed driving. 5/8 models of comparable year Civics average less than 30mpg mixed for example.

To some people the increase in power by 100%, the added room, not to mention ride quality, NVH levels etc... are worth the few mpgs.
>>
>>13838299
>similar prices
Yeah because I can get a great condition i4 for $1500

Mixed driving, my 92 Civic gets 33-35mpg, depending on how angry I feel like driving that week. It advertises 36 highway and 29 city. Average of that is 32.5.

>>13838385
Got my Civic for $800. Shop around, nig.

My neighbor cut me a deal on it. That and the fact that it had 323,000 miles on it when I bought it. It's about to kick over 335,000 now.

Are you the same guy who said his a/c doesn't work the other day? What is up with your complex about your shitty car?

Probably, and it's mine. What was I shitposting about then? I don't remember.

That's nice and all, but we were discussing comparable cars in price and year. Not your old shitbox you got for $800 from 23 years ago.

>What was I shitposting about then? I don't remember.
Focus thread. You were comparing your $800 Civic to some girls Focus. You ended up agreeing with me that the Focus is objectively better but for the money you like your used Civic.

I'm looking into a Vic right now. What all makes 06+ better from 03-05 aside from the tach?

I want to get the best platform possible. Right now I'm looking at an '05, '06 and '10.

>>13838395
>>13838433

In addition to the newer models.. there's a 00 or 01 I found for 600... it's from a dealership. Looks like they're trying to liquidate before the end of the year. It's got 260k miles on the clock. How much of a bad idea is this lol ?
>>
>>13841321
Lucky for me most of those are highway miles. The previous owners were both competitive shooters so they often used it as a road trip car to go to shooting matches and see relatives.
>>
skip the 02, 03+ all the way
>>
Crown Vics can be good cars; if you're a cop or if you're 90 years old!

Bitch please. Land yacht cozy for cheap. What's not to love?
>>

Honestly depending on how well it's been taken care of it could easily go to 400k. I traded in my Town Car with 270k on it.

I am not really sure why he said 06+ is better. It is better if you plan on staying stock, it has dbw throttle instead of cable. In 2005 most features are computer controlled by the ecu which is an advantage and disadvantage at the same time.
