agree with you on the Vehicross
although, they already have a cult following, and prices on clean, low mileage examples are getting stronger.

The S2000, specifically original, low-mileage AP1s. Obviously never 2000GT prices, but they should do well in about 15 years.
>>
>>13833019
That and Evos will be the only Japanese cars from the 2000s to retain value I bet. They will be like the new Supra/Rx7, while the rest lose value. They may not even gain in value but they aren't going any lower for sure.
>>
>>13832937
i bet the 1st gen Vipers (the ones with no roof or windows) is gonna be the most desirable with collectors.
>>
Most vehicles nowadays wouldn't be worth restoring just due to the sheer amount of parts and electronics in a modern vehicle. Although, any two-door, RWD V8 car with a manual transmission will probably hold a decent value.

My brother seems to think these Toyotas will be future collectibles.
>>
>>13833035
the NSX too. Prices have been climbing quickly on the 90s models. A decent mid-90s model went from about $35k to about $60k in just a few years.
>>
>>13833048
Ehh probably, but only because they are riding off of the glory of the old Fj's. It's not like they brought anything groundbreaking to the table

Too many. They're cool, but their styling is too "throwback" to ever be that desirable outside of a cult. It would be akin to a New Beetle being valuable 40 years from now. Probably not gonna happen.

An original FJ80 on the other hand, will make you money if you can get one for cheap. They're gonna be the next really big collector SUV.

>>13833166
Honestly don't think the 996 will ever be worth a lot. There will be a short-term bubble from people thinking just like you, but long term, they're always gonna be over-shadowed by the cars before and after (especially the 993). In the long run (10 to 15 years), they're value is gonna be were 1st gen Boxsters are (i.e., pretty damn cheap)
>>
>>13832551
Isn't E92 with 3.0 bi-turbo is the most affordable fun coupe right now? You can get one for $10k these days, strip the interior, boost the turbos and do a few other cheap mods to get hell of a car for it's price.
>>
>>13833235
You're gonna spend at least $16k to get one without 200k miles on it
>>
>>13833166

The 993 turbo is about 100k+, the 997 turbo is around 80-90k. For a mezger engined turbo, the 996 is a pretty big
Bargain at 45k. It has room to run up to 50-60k easily considering it is 80% the same parts as a 997 turbo

Shitboxes or not, they're all fairly rare, special edition, performance oriented cars of limited production numbers.

Almost all cars of the past that ticked those boxes have become major collectors items. Cars like the original mustangs, Camaro's, Chevelle's, Challenger's, Charger's and Satellite's

American-made, 1.4 Turbo 5th-gen Darts.

They're already "cult" by virtue of being Chrysler products, and thus only purchased by crazy people, but the 1.4's getting replaced with a Chrysler 1.8T, and Dart production is moving to Mexico. The 1.4's got a massive aftermarket and a long racing pedigree, the chassis can accept all kinds of engine swaps (incl. the Neon SRT-4's 2.4T) and AWD conversion.

It's a DSM for the modern age.

I can see it if it's the Sonic RS model. The overpriced, somewhat performance oriented, and there's no reason to buy one when compared to competitors like the Fiesta ST (only a grand or so more) so it doesn't sell well.

And even then, it's a long shot. I's possible, but highly unlikely to become a desirable classic. Like the Cosworth Chevy Vega's.

Based on the way prices have been pushing up on certain cars lately I will throw in my 2 cents

-FJ Cruiser

-H1 Hummers (Diesel Hummers in particular)

-Clean, unaltered Cobra Mustangs (half of them have wrapped around trees already)

-clean, NA Miatas

-Vipers

-Sky Redline/Solstice Redline

-Plethora of older Mercs and BMW's provided they are in good shape (500E, 190E, 500/560 SEC, early E55's, 80's to early 90's SL's, early M3 and M5', 850i and so on)

My dad nurtured this by letting me help him maintain his vehicles at a young age ("Hand me that wrench"), and taking me to classic VW shows and monster truck rally's. i personally hate vw with a firey passion, but i do have a thing for older bugs i guess...especially if theyre baja'd

>>13835543
thats not really true
sure supercars have a much higher percentage of being a classic than regular cars but there were quite a few that are objectively regarded as bad

>yfw the lamborghini gallardo
>>
>>13835569
except here in America, it's the Chevy SS, and it's RARE AS FUCK HERE.
>>
>>13835581
iirc theyre discontinuing it after 2017 or some shit too so that will add to their rarity
if they priced it at 35k instead of 45k id own one right now
>>
>>13834339
stock SE-R already pull ridiculous premiums. good example

>>13834292
oddball car that didn't get the best engine available but really is the spiritual successor of the eg6. I gibe it a solid "maybe"

>>13833669
will only be bought in the future by those who've given up on 240sx platform. half will be by those wanting to use "x" swap kit for that sick 2jz swap bro but never will be completed. stock ones will pull a premium like all "drift" oriented tuner cars who "know what they got".

>>13833643
the vue will be worthless forever and always with a couple enthusiasts who want to be different. the ion will be for the people looking for a cobalt but have to settle on this because they gave up. the rest will fall into the "different" category as above.

>>13833622
see >>13833643 review

>>13833631
TBSS will be a classic through and through. head of nail meets hammer. SAAB 9-7x Aero will be for hipsterfags.

>>13833166
market will get oversaturated and drive the price down. stop getting car investment advice from /DRIVE channel.

>>13833167
yep

>>13833019
most s2ks are kept in good condtition so this gets a "highly likely" from me. amazing chassis with the formula for fun. miata with power.

>>13832992
such a goofy car that it was destined to become famous in a "nobody knows what it is so let me describe it to you in detail on my craigslist for sale ad" kind of way. quirky but irksome to own.

>>13832937
viper is a born classic. challenger and charger I believe will never be classic because they were built as an answer to chevy's camaro boomer fanfare debut with stylistic cues to captivate that particular demographic. because they don't have a long lineage they won't be as valuable (if ever) as the venerable mustang or camaro. value will go down as boomers die out.

my views on some of these suggestions. like other anons have said, if it was rwd, a special race homologation version, turbo or otherwise there will be a demand.
>>
>>13835577
Well, the gallardo has really high production numbers for a super car. It's the most basic entry level super car there is

I wouldn't say the gallardo is regarded as bad, there's just nothing special about them other than they're lambos.

Beetle's remind me heavily of my childhood. The only other VW's I like are MK3 Golf's and Jetta's for the looks, and MK5 Rabbit's and Jetta's with the 5 or 6 cylinder engines. Beyond that, there isn't a single VW I like.
>>
>>13835467
reread my post. I never said all shit cars will be classics. the market decides. you're making an argument where none is to be had.

this guy get it. after the honeymoon, buyer's remorse will set in hard on a 996. Bad outside, bad inside, lot off issues with the motor, poor resale, and everyone thinks they're getting in on the ground floor with them, so their value is currently over inflated, even at their low prices. Get a used early Cayman, if you want a cheapish Porsche. The 996 is gonna be like the 944 is now: cool car, fun to drive, but outside of a few special editions, no real value (and porsche guys will look down on you)

I can see the 1st and 2nd gen Saturn SLs being cult cars. Never worth real money, but clean examples will definitely have their buyers 20 years from now.
>>
>>13835647
Lambo has made a lot of crappy sports cars no one remembers and that aren't worth any real money (Urraco). A clean Porsche 993 is probably worth more than a Gallardo
>>
>>13835647
its definitely regarded as bad by supercar standards
besides this thread is really about whether or not the car will be a classic in the future or not. im willing to bet a lot there will be no uptick in value for these other than inflation.

>>13835654
i can get behind that.
i always forget about the mk5 rabbit. that was a decent car.

>>13835657

my bad

those are already rare bc of cash for clunkers

This.

>the fleet is well cared for in garages used often as weekend cars
>redline/GXP will do even better

The sky looks better IMO.
>>
>>13836141
They have already been gaining in value for 2 years. Mint condition GXP's are selling for 18-20K

Sky redlines are doing a little better than 20 in some cases

It's funny how the Camaro got better just because Pontiac disappeared. Just like how all camerofags took most of the original GM replacement parts of the F body.

Obvious 458. Can't believe that you Ferrari-hating autists didn't post this...
Probably last naturally-aspired Ferrari-V8, changed the whole supercar-market etc.
Absolut future-classic, no doubt about that.
