1993 4runner for sale, 3000$, 227k miles, manual
The used car lot said they were closing down so all their cars were basically sold for the same price they bought them at. What are some common issues and things to look out for in these trucks? Things to be aware of?

pic is not the truck
>>
They're solid vehicles.
Look for common issues that any older high mileage vehicle would have; rust, worn suspension, oil leaks, etc.

I'm actually looking for a manual 4Runner myself at the moment. The older 3.0 wasn't as 'good' or reliable as the newer 3.4 though. Keep that in mind.

See if you could get it for below $3k, maybe $2500, or even $2900.
>>
>manual 4runner

DICK IS DIAMONDS THATS ALL I NEEDED TO READ

Under powered head gasket eating turd.
I love them. But I'll never buy one because its a slow inefficient brick.
>>
they are slow, but they make some good low-end power because they are actually trucks not SUVs, or power wagons or whatever you want to call them.

they came out before SUV was even a thing. technically they are classified as light trucks. the head gaskets do blow, but toyota did a recall to change them. if you do buy the truck check the carfax to see if the recall is outstanding or just call your local toyota dealership and ask.
>>
>>13817386
>they are actually trucks not SUVs
Wow, dumbest shit I ever read.

3000 bucks for that turd is ridiculous. They didn't pay that, they're lying. You could find the same thing, probably with less miles, for 800 bucks.
>>
Anyone that buys any car/truck with over 200k at any price is a fucking retard. You would have to be the poorest motherfucker.
>>
>>13817837
>I can't wrench!

lol. Fucking stupid kids these days.
Why are you even on /o/?
>>
>>13817692
where the fuck do you live that you can find a 2nd gen 4runner that runs for 800 bucks. Tell me nigger I want to know.
>>
>>13817924
Anywhere, nigga. No one wants the damn things.
>>
>>13817935
I mean it's not like the truck that they take the drive train and frame from is in any way shape or form reliable. That's not the case. There's absolutely no aftermarket support for them either for customization, none at all. They have zero public good will that has been squandered on the latest gen too.
>>
>>13817924
yea 3k is high. you can get one with that mileage under 2k on the used market.

Everything you said is true, except the last part. I'm thinking you don't know anything about 2nd gen 4Runners.

>tfw got my 94 4runner sr5 with 98k miles for $2000
>>
>>13817837
I bought a 96 camry with 240k for $1200.

2 years later, no major services or anything, just oil, brakes, and tires and im over 300k on the odo... and it still drives better than most newer cars.

but hey, if you wanna finance $15k+ turd and have a monthly payment because you're too concerned with your image, then be my guest
>>
>>13818320
>and it still drives better than most newer cars.
No, it does not.
>>
>>13818320
>im better because im poorer
I would be surprised by this logic, then I saw its a tripfag. aaannnd blocked.
>>
>>13818326
yes it does. newer cars are cheaply built. i sold new cars for a few years. try driving for a couple hours in a brand new dart, and then do the same in a 90s toyota sedan and get back to me.

my car rides great, gets good mpgs, doesnt leak anything and has working radio, a/c and heat.
>>
>>13817849
Have fun replacing motor or trans. The labor alone would total the car. (that's implying someone this poor would even have insurance coverage)
>>
>>13818352
>yes it does.
No, it doesn't. I drove XV20 Camrys when they were new. They were nice at the time, but do not compare favorably to new vehicles, especially not most of them. Your 300,000 mile example is most definitely worse.

>"I drove that car over 20 years ago, I am totally capable of making a legit comparison to todays models"

... in response to a guy that actually owns one now, no less. good one.
>>
>>13818408
How is driving one when it was brand new a worse comparison than a guy who bought one with 200k on it and is now over 300,000 miles? Your car isn't comparable to new ones, deal with it. You're just poor and need to justify owning a clapped out shitbox.
>>
>>13818412
easy there champ, thats not my only set of wheels

just saying older cars are vastly better than newer ones and that you are a dummy
>>
>>13817386
fucking frame rust out the ass
>>
>>13818448
Ok lil' nigga. Enjoy being poor.
>>
That's straight up rice tax. Don't pay that with that much mileage. Trash businesses say they are going out of business all the time, it's not illegal to say that.

Buy it if its a 4banger. If it has that generations v6 stay way the fuck far away from it.
>>
>>13818389
for a decent amount of time most SUVs were just trucks with a bodykit. Look at the suburban.
>>
>>13818919
But it IS an SUV and not a truck, just because it shares parts with a truck.
>>
>>13818929
>a covered bed suddenly makes it not a truck

better tell all those guys with toppers
