Why do most people park their cars outside?

I'm not a home owner yet, but if I had my own garage I would park my car inside of it everyday. If you give a damn about your car, you should be parking it in the garage too. Outdoor parked cars get fucked by intense hot or cold weather, direct sunlight for hours on end, rain, dirt in the wind, and perhaps other conditions that aren't immediately coming to me.

>b-b-but my garage is full of junk!

Haul that shit to the dump, there's no excuse.

Why do most people drive their cars outside?

I'm not a car collector yet, but if I had my own collection I would just sit and stare at it every day. If you give a damn about your car, you wouldn’t be driving it too.

>>
Because Americans are hoarding consumers but basements are too expensive for them, so they pile up all their junk in the garage instead.
>>
Because my garage is full of motorcycles.
>>
>>13817339
The car collection in OP alone is worth more than anything you ever had, I doubt it'd be very hard to get a basement

The real answer is laziness, murrikans are fucking lazy, it takes 2 minutes from my apartment to my garage yet I never leave the car outside
>>
>>13817305
My garage has my washer, dryer, scooter, tools, lawn care stuff, shit left over from moving, etc.

It's quite a mess. It's also small. I wish my garage was bigger so I could park my car in it. My friend's parents have a house with a 6-car garage. It's awesome.
>>
>>13817330
Retarded analogy. The literal point of a garage is to keep you car away from the weather when you're not driving it. Cars are meant to be driven, yes, but cars aren't meant to park out in the rain if you can help it.
>>
>>13817374
>I drive my cars daily

my garage(spare room) is full of car parts, cause i'd drive anycar anyday. there is no excuse not to drive it. you'd be the person who clips a brid of preys wings so it couldn't hunt but look pretty, the person that'd lock away beautiful art so it could gain value instead of influence people. just remembering the hunter s thompson quote about ariving in the afterlife covered in scars to show you actually lived yourlife instead of perfection showing that you did nothing but only think of yourself

Why would you want to maintain something you can prevent by parking you car in a garage? Also, especially if the weather is shit, it'd be much better to not leave the house to get into your car. I can't even comprehend how retarded you sound right now.

Lel can't wait
>>
>>13817528
Why can't anyone ever build a garage deep enough to fit workbench space behind the car(s)? All you need an extra eight feet. Instead you always have to sacrifice an entire bay.
>>
>>13817573
builders build spec houses to suit the most common home buyer. the most common buyer either uses their garage to store their cars, or to store all of their junk. the average new home buyer doesn't work on their own cars plus concrete is expensive
>>
>>13817573
Because thinking is not a thing many people do.
>>
americans need to stop living in fucking houses with attached garages anyway. what the fuck

what's wrong with having a craftsman style cottage and a single car wide driveway that runs alongside that leads to a 2 car garage that's in the backyard
>>
or bungalow rather
>>
>>13817581

This. Lots are getting smaller all the time, so having a garage that can BARELY fit a compact car is considered an "extra". I worked on some town homes this past summer, they were pathetic. People who owned vans, or anything bigger than a Ford Escape, couldn't park in the garage. One lady had a Chevy Tagoe, but she told us she had to trade it in because it wouldn't fit in the garage. She bought a Trax instead. Kek. Should've seen her trying to get out of it, the doors barely opened enough to squeeze out.

And they were selling these shitholes for $440,000.
>>
>>13817620
town homes are such a scam. why would anyone buy one. it's not like they're built like old brownstones where there's a solid masonry firebreak between each home
>>
>>13817608

Americans like big and flashy. House needs to be over sized and ostentatious. Properties aren't large enough to have a layout other than an attached garage.
>>
>>13817628
they can't even afford a house nowadays because their tastes are soo unrealistic and the way the market has shifted just can't suit building tons of tract homes like previous decades unless you want to live in some medium sized city with nothing to do but furnish your monument of debt

Tahoe, derp

>>13817627

They were almost all purchased by rich asian immigrants, half of them are being used as "investment properties". Some of them were pre-sold 2 years ago, and 6 months before the home closed they would sell it to someone else. Since real estate prices have been climbing so much in the area, these people made $100,000 without doing a thing. They didn't even take possession of the house, didn't have to pay property taxes, etc.

Lots of urbanite yuppies buy them too, it means they're close to the city but they don't have to worry about maintaining a property. No lawns to cut, leaves to rake, etc. Just a place to eat, sleep, and showcase your entry-level import "luxury" car.

If I never see another 3 series or A4 I will die happy.
>>
>>13817648
that's another problem, americans have been indoctrinated to believe their house is an investment, rather than being a home to live in
>>
>>13817659

The only way it functions as a feasible investment is if you sell it before you even move in, or if you sit on it for 70 years and watch property values increase exponentially. But who the fuck can/will do that?

Rich Chinese are buying up shittons of property all over Canada, especially Vancouver. They're using it them as staging points for their intelligence operations and economic warfare campaign.

And our government does nothing.
>>
>>13817676
they unrealistically optimistic about property values going on dramatically, which happens in cities that are desirable and not really adding more housing stock except for the wealthy because developers are the same way now, profits above all else. north american society has become unsustainably greedy as fuck and people wonder why we're constantly in bubbles

>>
>>13817608
Go to any neighborhood from the 50's and that's exactly what you'll see
And they're not large properties.
>>
>>13817719
that's how all of america's new neighborhoods should be built. not like denver's stapleton where houses are 2 feet apart from each other where you get no yard whatsoever except for patches of grass and alley streets where all of the garages are. houses are just too fucking big and you gain nothing from having big ass houses but more space to heat/cool clean furnish etc
>>
>>13817731
Water.
With the rate the Denver area is growing we don't usually have enough water to comfortably use it anymore.
So people don't get yards.
It was never like this when I was a kid.
Now there's nothing but town homes and apartment buildings going up and it's ridiculous. Parker and out by the airport and fucking shit holes.
Thanks Obama.

>park my 3 cars outside
where am i supposed to keep my toys if i park in the garage?
>>
>>13817745
well the yards can be replaced with german style landscape gardens. i wish i could find a pic but it's basically all mulch with a bunch of ornamental shrubs with paving walking stones
>>
>>13817754
kind of like this
>>
>>13817305
Most older homes only come with a one car garage, because there was only the family car.

So therefore the wife gets the garage and the husband has to park outside.

My sister just had a new house built. Two car garage, but that is just it. Two cars, not SUVs/CUVs and trucks.

My sister's crossover goes in the garage, my brother in laws work truck and personal truck sit outside in the yard.

In the south, I'm willing to bet a majority of people don't even have garages. We don't have to worry about snow accumulating on the top of our vehicle or the cold.
>>
>>13817305

i can't speak for the rest of the world, but in england a garage is meant for something like a ford anglia. you might be able to fit a modern car in one but you wouldn't be able to open the door. a 90s ford escort is about the limit, if you park all the way over on the passenger side and don't mind squeezing your way out.

I never thought I'd see the day when an American would praise foreign front lawns because it seems that usually Americans are obsessed with their style of yards which to me always had far too much of a golf course flair. Just acres of flat lawn.

>>

>>
>>13817977
Basements are regional things. Based on the soil and the topography of the land, houses in certain regions will either predominantly have basements or have seemingly no basements. And people who don't make as much can't afford basements anyways.
>>
>>13818003
they're everywhere in colorado which makes me wonder why the hell can't they put parking underground and get rid of fucking parking lots that waste valuable real estate that could be turned into more affordable apartment housing like everything off colorado blvd
>>
>>13818034
That would be unaffordable communism though. Better spread out our developments, it's the true spirit of freedom.
>>
I rent a room with my landlord and another roommate. Landlord is a hoarder or extremely lazy to get rid of anything. Entire garage is filled, side of his house is a junk pile of what previous renters left behind. Pretty nasty, I hope I don't live here much longer but it's cheaper than an apparent.
>>
>>13818048
developers would earn more profits, leasing out retail space and a bunch of condo like places to rent out. but the way they do shit there is too texan or californian. it's sad that atlanta is more progressive with their urbanism like edgewood retail district in little five points or the one off howell mill rd and 75. they even have a kroger with a fucking parking lot on top of the store off atlanta rd and n church lane. it's not like land is expensive as fuck in georgia either

My company does landscaping for a few people who have these. They are a pain in the ass to keep looking well. Meanwhile any homeowner with a kid 10 or older and some fertlizer can have a good looking yard.

If you want low maintenance I would go with this

>grass around outside of property
>evergreen trees outside of the beds
>properly installed gravel beds around the house with hard edging
>ground cover where you want green, but not grass

You have some mowing to do, but no weeds, no leaves, no mulching, and a little trimming of the evergreens.

I have an oversized 2.5+1.5 car garage (dividing wall because old homeowner was a body man and used it as a paint booth) and always park in it... Except when I'm 16 hours into a job where some disassembly is required (ie. Replacing full suspension and stripping the interior.
