Not only is it underpowered like a bitch, the AE86 is carbed while the 88 is FI, compression of the 86 was 9.0:1 while the 88 was 9.4:1, the 88 had LSD while the 86 did not, the 88 had 4.30 gears while the 86 had 3.91 gears, the 88 had 6.7 diff while the 86 had a 6.4 diff.

Saying the 88 is the same as the 86 is literally saying the 85 is the same as the 86. The 85 and the 86 both share the AE86 chassis. What makes an AE86 isn't the chassis, it's the VIN.

I lived an hour and a half away from there and worked on a farm south of Lemoore during the summers. I am very aware of the weather patterns in the central valley. It also is not nearly as bad as you depicted.


There's a very good way of fixing the weather issues, AND generating electricity.

Modeled it in college, iirc drill two sets of 80 120 ft diameter tunnels through the sierras at about 4k elevation to the east of Visalia and Merced. Throw some heavy duty grating and steel shutters so you can close them up for maintenance and install turbines into the tunnels at the ends, the difference in air pressure between the CA and Nevada side will keep a continual flow of air running through them almost year round, keeping the air from stagnating in the central valley and generating electricity.

Same could be done in the coastal range but that would be more troublesome because of how there's active fault lines and oil shale deposits off on that side (not to mention the geology on that side of the state is a clusterfuck because of the faultlines) to have a near constant coastal influx. It'd be very simmilar to if there was a set of new passes cut into the mountains.


Seriously though, Stockton is a sadder place. Used to be a high dollar port and having fuckton of merch going through the delta there, especially when they had the military contracts. Bases shut down, and then the environmentalists got involved and they let a lot of the locks silt in.

Actually it's the geology of the valley really. Even during the initial westward push, because of the humidity from the lakes and sloughs as well as the smoke from fires burning unabated up in the mountains the central San Joaquin always had a brownish haze to it.

Now it's mostly the smog from the 99, I5 and stuff being blown in over Pacheco pass getting stuck until there's a big enough weather system to push that all over into nevada. You can't kick up enough dust or kick out enough smog from Ag nowadays without getting fined into bankruptcy by CARB to really affect the smog levels one way or another.
