The average citizen cannot shoot or main or kill someone without an almost 100% certainty that they will be caught and face a trial. Police can shoot any person they choose, particularly easily if they choose a black person, and use any excuse they want. The worst that will happen to any police officer is that they will lose their badge and be a normal citizen. You never see cops (murderers) in jail, despite their high contributions and encouragement of criminality and violence in the streets.
Cops have, at any moment, the ability to request armed backup to their location and expect to receive it in minutes. Normal citizens have the ability to call the police and wait 30 minutes to an hour for one single patrol car to meander its way to their location.
By and large, cops are the worst criminals in this country. If there is one figure who I absolutely guarantee will lie to your face it's a cop. They will lie to you, make you believe they're on your side, right after they signed the paperwork to hit you over the head with a decade in prison. Cops do not care about citizens and legally have "no specific obligation" to aid or help citizens in any way (warren v. DoC). Cops are pigs. Cops deserve to die. Fuck cops. I'm not trying to be retarded here, maybe I'm just uninformed, but it's not just the majority of cases, but literally every case of potential abuse, the cops seem to get suspended or investigated at best, at worst, maybe asked to leave the force, or pressured behind the scenes to leave, to save face.

I mean, it was often the case in the past here too, but the last 5-10 years or so, public outrage and media influence, and recent public inquiries have meant that cops here are far more likely to be charged, dismissed or even jailed for poor trigger discipline or excessive force.

Professionals who use guns (military and police) typically have bad accuracy. Both typically don't get much practice time and rarely get into actual firefights (remember that most cops over their entire career will never even draw their gun, and many soldiers see the enemy or just get ambushed with an IED). Couple that with training (police: shoot repeatedly to make sure you kill them, military: suppress them and either flank or wait for airstrike) and panic and you get some atrocious accuracy numbers for the average officer or soldier. why is /news/ so retarded? An HK416, standard issue for LA cops, can hold a 100 round beta-c mag, and the standard HK mag is 30 rounds. Combine that with the fact the article doesn't list the arms or caliber, and a shotgun was also fired, chances are they were firing an assault rifle, which is standard routine when dealing with a dangerous, high-profile target, or, equally as likely - since most reporters are idiots when it comes to guns - they're counting shotgun pellets as bullets. So it would only take 4 cops with standard-issue HK416 or other AR to fire most of their mags to get that 107 number. Since it was 8 cops, say 3 had ARs, 3 had sidearms, and 2 had shotguns, it's actually nowhere near as bad as you're making it out to be. The spray&pray is completely inexcusable, though.
