That's his argument, and frankly it's a bullshit one. The gun store could have just told him to fuck off, but instead they took the time to point out that he's a wife-beater and they weren't going to give him a gun.

Unless he can get someone else, who also has a publicly recorded history of violent and abusive behaviour, to go into that store and buy a gun, he has no grounds to say that it's too easy when he's the living example that the system works- unless you have proven yourself worthy of distrust, you are allowed to complete the paperwork and get your purchase.
