only this year alone NATO ran 5 operations in Baltics.

Lithuania's President Dalia GrybauskaitÄ— called the existence of Russia and Belarus in the east a major threat to the Baltic States and Poland. The Lithuanian leader announced this to the local press today, June 5, before the beginning of the state visit to Estonia.

In particular, the head of the Lithuanian state reminded that the Baltic countries and Poland are the "eastern border of NATO". The very neighborhood with Russia and Belarus is a threat to him. Plus the militarization of the Kaliningrad region, plus the use of the territory of Belarus for "various experiments and aggressive games directed against the West."

By "aggressive games" and challenges, Gribauskaite attributed the Belarusian-Russian maneuvers "West-2017". As noted earlier in Lithuania, they can serve as a prelude to an armed invasion and subsequent occupation.

In this regard, the Lithuanian Supreme Commander-in-Chief believes, the Baltic countries and Poland should solidarily strengthen the defense capability of their states and, first of all, air defense (air defense). It is necessary to saturate the "eastern wing" as much as possible with air defense systems and other weapons. This will cool the ardor of the aggressors and sober them up.

As for the cover-up plans, NATO should become more flexible in the context of decision-making, ensure the deblockade of the Baltic states in the event of the capture of the so-called Suwalk corridor.

On these and other challenges, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland should unanimously speak at the summit of the leaders of the NATO member states in the summer of 2018 to make significant progress in strengthening security, President Grybauskaite said.

Russian paid shill poster.
Russia invades Goergia, annexes Crimea, does proxy war in Ukraine east, talks about taking back Baltic states.

Then wonders why Baltic states ask for more NATO deployment.

I'm honestly worried that people in the west/NATO are going to start considering taking Kaliningrad by force in the coming five years or so as Russia fails to comply with western sanctions.

That'd be an effective way to start the next world war.

There's far too much scaremongering in the media about Russia.

Facts are blown out of proportion to the detriment of Russia.

From the hacking stories being warped (power stations in the US, the wildest stories about Macron, now people suggesting they hacked Qatar to spread fake news so Saudi Arabia would hate them - really?), to the situations in Syria and Ukraine.

Yes, there are places where they've crossed the line, but none of what they're doing is worse than what the US is doing. Both nations need to stop this nonsense, but Russia doesn't have the same media machine backing its position and shaping public opinion.

I've seen James Clapper suggest that Russians are genetically predisposed to do this, which is a terrifying notion, and the reporter didn't seem to give a shit at all.

Public opinion is shaping hard against Russia and I fear it will result in political action - just as Theresa May recently said that human rights laws need to be curbed to deal with terrorism. The media's coverage of terrorism in a sensationalistic way causes these kinds of political responses. Trump, Brexit, all these things are real consequences from scaremongering.

It's slowly becoming accepted that Russia is a threat that needs to be dealt with, and I think it will start in Kaliningrad.

We march until we drop, then we go over the top.

You know that the scaremongering and hate was way worse during the Cold War, and we and the Russians were far more aggressive towards one another than now, right? Not saying it was a good thing, just saying that there's a broad gulf between open hostilities to chucking nukes at one another. Hostility does raise the chances of major wars, but it could be argued that ignoring a growing situation or appeasing does too.

But during the Cold War the Soviet Union had the manpower to defend itself.

Not only that, voices of dissent were allowed on American TV.

Nowadays the polarization seems quite hard, as anyone who defends anything Russia does is immediately shouted down as a Putin apologist, a Russian shill, etc.

>none of what they're doing is worse than what the US is doing

This is what Putin wants you to believe. This is what Donald wants you to believe. It's a worldview that permits corruption and political despotism because "the other guys are just as bad."

>Not only that, voices of dissent were allowed on American TV [back during the Cold War].

Wut?
>>
>>147583
Both. Need. To. Stop. I do not accept either of their actions where they needlessly cost human lives.

>It's a worldview that permits corruption and political despotism because "the other guys are just as bad."
Yes, and America casts everyone else as terrible to allow itself to do horrible things. Saddam was bad, so we must murder one million Iraqis to remove him - and then Saddam was convicted to death for the murder of 39 Iraqis. Who was worse, here?

But the US government refuses to see it that way because they think of themselves as exceptional, the only indispensable in nation the world - meaning the rest can fuck off.

Read the next sentence I wrote. If you show up on TV and provide a Russian point of view on any matter, you are are immediately cast as a Putin apologist. This was not as the case during the Cold War, where people listened to experts on the Soviet Union or at least allowed them to speak, rather than mindlessly accept sensationalistic claims from the loudest douchebag they could find on Twitter. There was a true debate during that time, and the debate has vanished. Everyone just nods in agreement that Russia is evil purely for existing, and it is shaping the minds of people everywhere.

>Russia doesn't have the same media machine backing its position and shaping public opinion.
Yes they do. It's not on TV or in the press but on the internet.
>>
>>147563
Attacking Kaliningrad would be a suicide, it's basicly a military base. If you think anyone in NATO would consider attacking Kaliningrad You are retarded as fuck. Why would NATO attack Russia anyway, there's no point in it.

And the west doesn't have a presence on the internet? I'd say the Russian presence on the internet in comparison to the west isn't any bigger than the Russian media presence in comparison to the west.

>>147628
We're not there yet, but think of it as Europe's Cuba. If public opinion is shaped into a sufficiently anti-Russian stance ("they are a threat to all democracy"), and the politics follow as they did due to media overexposure on terrorism (which results in suggestions of curbing human rights, a drastic rise in xenophobia, etc, all equally ineffective at actually dealing with the problem at hand) then it starts becoming a possibility.

The president of Lithuania saying "the pure existence of Russia" is our main threat is worrying to me in that light. The notion of Clapper saying that Russians are "genetically predisposed" to subterfuge is worrying.

Its also entirely possible that the aggression will come from the other angle - perhaps you will see more merit in that suggestion - that Russia will feel the need to per-emptively secure their military position in Kaliningrad. Similar to what happened in Crimea.

Sanctions on Russia are likely to fuel anti-European sentiment, along with the state media blaming foreigners for their problems, etc.

The problem is coming from both sides.
