>North Korean state media warned the United States of a "super-mighty preemptive strike" after U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said the United States was looking at ways to bring pressure to bear on North Korea over its nuclear programme.

>U.S. President Donald Trump has taken a hard line with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has rebuffed admonitions from sole major ally China and proceeded with nuclear and missile programmes in defiance of U.N. Security Council sanctions.

>The Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the North's ruling Workers' Party, did not mince its words.

>"In the case of our super-mighty preemptive strike being launched, it will completely and immediately wipe out not only U.S. imperialists' invasion forces in South Korea and its surrounding areas but the U.S. mainland and reduce them to ashes," it said.

>Reclusive North Korea regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States and has shown no let-up in its belligerence after a failed missile test on Sunday, a day after putting on a huge display of missiles at a parade in Pyongyang.
...
>>
>"We're reviewing all the status of North Korea, both in terms of state sponsorship of terrorism as well as the other ways in which we can bring pressure on the regime in Pyongyang to re-engage with us, but re-engage with us on a different footing than past talks have been held," Tillerson told reporters in Washington on Wednesday.

>U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, on a tour of Asian allies, has said repeatedly an "era of strategic patience" with North Korea is over.

>U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Paul Ryan said during a visit to London the military option must be part of the pressure brought to bear.

>"Allowing this dictator to have that kind of power is not something that civilised nations can allow to happen," he said in reference to Kim.

>Ryan said he was encouraged by the results of efforts to work with China to reduce tension, but that it was unacceptable North Korea might be able to strike allies with nuclear weapons.

>North and South Korea are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in a truce, not a peace treaty.

>'MAX THUNDER'

>South Korea's acting president, Hwang Kyo-ahn, at a meeting with top officials on Thursday, repeatedly called for the military and security ministries to maintain vigilance.

>The defence ministry said U.S. and South Korean air forces were conducting an annual training exercise, codenamed Max Thunder, until April 28. North Korea routinely labels such exercises preparations for invasion.

>"We are conducting a practical and more intensive exercise than ever," South Korean pilot Colonel Lee Bum-chul told reporters. "Through this exercise, I am sure we can deter war and remove our enemy's intention to provoke us."

>>
>South Korean presidential candidates clashed on Wednesday night in a debate over the planned deployment in South Korea of a U.S.-supplied Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system, which has angered China.

>Frontrunner Moon Jae-in was criticized for leaving his options open before the May 9 election.

>On Monday, Hwang and Pence reaffirmed their plans to go ahead with the THAAD, but the decision will be up to the next South Korean president. For its part, China says the system's powerful radar is a threat to its security.

>The North has said it has developed a missile that can strike the mainland United States, but officials and experts believe it is some time away from mastering the necessary technology, including miniaturising a nuclear warhead.

>RUSSIA, U.S. AT ODDS

>The United States and Russia clashed at the United Nations on Wednesday over a U.S.-drafted Security Council statement to condemn North Korea's latest failed ballistic missile test.

>Diplomats said China had agreed to the statement.

>Such statements by the 15-member council have to be agreed by consensus.

>Previous statements denouncing missile launches "welcomed efforts by council members, as well as other states, to facilitate a peaceful and comprehensive solution through dialogue". The latest draft statement dropped "through dialogue" and Russia requested it be included again.

>"When we requested to restore the agreed language that was of political importance and expressed commitment to continue to work on the draft ... the U.S. delegation without providing any explanations cancelled the work on the draft," the Russian U.N. mission said in a statement.

>Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said China believed in the Security Council maintaining unity.

>"Speaking with one voice is extremely important to the Security Council appropriately responding to the relevant issue on the peninsula," he told reporters.

>There has been some confusion over the whereabouts of a U.S. aircraft carrier group after Trump said last week he had sent an "armada" as a warning to North Korea, even as the ships were still far from Korean waters.

>The U.S. military's Pacific Command explained that the USS Carl Vinson strike group first had to complete a shorter-than-planned period of training with Australia. It was now heading for the Western Pacific as ordered, it said.

>China's influential Global Times newspaper, which is published by the People's Daily, the Communist Party's official paper, wondered whether the misdirection was deliberate.

>"The truth seems to be that the U.S. military and president jointly created fake news and it is without doubt a rare scandal in U.S. history, which will be bound to cripple Trump's and U.S. dignity," it said.

Could this count as a WWIII or just global annihilation? When shit hits the fan, all the bombing and radiation scattering all over will severely alter our already currently weather changed globe.

I agree with this, but you've left out the part about the effects from 60+ years of nuclear testing that has already happened. You can't watch Soviet Tsar Bomba footage along with the US Bikini Atoll and Nevada Test Range footage from the 1950s and 60s and tell me all that didn't subtly alter the Earth's climate in some way.
>>
>>133801
Absolutely agreed, the problem is that this won't be a singular detonation in a remote location. Not that I'm defending the preciously done tests but they have already been done now and humanity has socially advanced from that sort of practice to a point in which those things much like christian conquest or slavery that were somewhat the normal practice for that time, currently it is not. The best we can do with that is learn from what happened and avoid in the future, but I guess it's out of our hand and what's left is to bite the pillow.

Srly? NK only have 8 nuclear warheads which can be intercepted by the usa antibalistic system deployed in Japan and south korea, meanwhile the usa has 7.500 nuclear warheads, nk couldn't hurt a fly if they try

>When shit hits the fan, all the bombing and radiation scattering all over will severely alter our already currently weather changed globe.

Even a full blown nuclear exchange at the height of the cold war wouldn't have caused "global annihilation." Things would have gotten pretty bad, yes, and lots of people would have died(both from direct effects and after effects of the nuclear blasts and from starvation caused by the nuclear winter), but it wouldn't have been the end of the world unless you happened to live in one of the population centers targeted.

You're assuming the missiles would be launched from the Korean peninsula. The whole point of the last Nork missile launch test while Pence was in Seoul was to demonstrate their newly acquired submarine launching capability. Granted, the missile blew up, but the launch itself from a sub was a success.

There's no proof whatsoever in any way concrete that NK has even 1 nuke.
>>
>>133934
I'm struggling to find racism in that comment.
>>
>>133923
Well, they've certainly done nuclear tests before, right? So they -could- have a nuke. But I don't think they've ever proven a reliable intercontinental delivery system.
>>
>>133999
No, it's not said they have actually in my mind. They made large explosions underground which international agencies >assumed> were nuclear because of general size.

I think it's far more likely that they've been amassing normal explosives and using old Cold War stuff, and instead have spent their time and "scientific minds" triggering it all together so it goes off at once and it's this that they're using to "blackmail" countries (and they go along with it because it fits global agendas).

If they have something, they bought it illegally and in no way already exploded it. And, like you said, they have no delivery system.

I also think that those missiles they use on parade are probably hollow metal shells, just like those AK's probably don't have any ammo in them.

NKor is a "damned if you do it, and damned if you don't" situation.

The nukes are scary, but the real problem is that they have more poundage of artillery aimed at Seoul than was used in the entirety of WW2, all on a hair trigger. Any engagement with NKor is estimated to end up with 3 million dead SKor civilians within the first hour. (And, indeed, the Clinton administration went through several hundred war scenarios, all ending with at least that lost - something that NKor loves to point out.)

But NKor wants the attention. Their entire power structure relies on presenting the US as an imminent threat to their people. At the same time, they are largely reliant on foreign aid.

So they hold a knife to SKor's throat, while screaming about injustice and a hostile US. Hoping either to get bribed into silence, or real instill enough hostility to serve their propaganda.

Ignore them, and they make more noise, more grandiose weapon demonstrations, etc. etc.

Pay them attention and you play right into their hands.

Basically, unless we can bribe China into dealing with them, there is no good way this can end.

It's also an extremely delicate situation and a powder keg that could ignite with one wrong word - and given how often our current president likes to gaff - I have a feeling one of those "not good endings" will happen within the next few years.

When America fought the Koreans, we split it in two and made the north the equivalent of a "double agent". For two reasons. To allow us a legitimat cause to bring our force closer to the Russians, and North Korea can build up its military because they hate us, and the south builds up its " defences " as a response. But because the North Korean are the #1Anti-USA. This would draw out all the other countries that would want to oppose the United$tate Empire.
That covers recent past and present. Now Let's talk about the next 4 years. And this is simply the theory from subconscious mind... First we will see more and more talks about Ww3 it will get to the point that it's even in the grade schools. Then you will notice that Muslim terrorism slows down all across Europe and the middle east.slow way the fuck down.. This is a sign of the true approaching battle. Not with north Korea because at this pivotal point they will attack China. This is when you will see the Islamic Forces all across Europe convirge on the western fields of Russia, pushing to Moscow. You will see the Korean force push north to Beijing. And you will see the Canadian&½of the USA force start their push from the north. And Japan and Indonesia will cover the east to west push. And because they feared the possible submarine attack, to California, "They" continue to allow Fukushima to leak radiation into the Pacific thus making sub tracking in the Pacific %100 accurate.

I... Have my doubts about most of this, but yes, I will agree that this is just more cold war shit coming back to bite us in the ass.

Will it ever end?
