Kay jewelers retail associates make 20k per year. You can make that kind of money being a janitor at mcdonalds. Whatever gemology they know is from a ten minute employee training video. The fact is, an extra 10-15k a year is really tempting to wage slaves. Retail is one of the few industries where a high school diploma can get you to a middle class income, which makes for a lot of hopefuls desperate enough to fuck some creep for it.
