Electric airplanes are possible. You've probably seen the Solar Impulse already, so what do you think?
>>985727
Too slow to be viable as a transport at this point, but worth developing
>>985727
i want an electric motor glider that is more glider than motorer.

Electric airplanes will be much more common in the future. They are great for situations that have a limited range such as initial pilot training.

Interesting. Sun light should be much stronger at high altitudes and wind resistance much less. Unlike combustion engines they don't need oxygen to run the motors so that's another advantage. So why not do long distances?

Self-launching sailplanes are a thing.
Wiki has some electric ones listed:

Batteries are still extremely heavy and offer very limited range. Electric motors are best at generating a lot of torque, which is something that is not terribly useful to small aircraft.
That is some fragile b****** did she get home yet ?

>Electric airplanes are possible.
Sure. When we've developed practical room-temperature superconductor technology, applicable to building electric motors, and how about frictionless bearings while we're at it, and battery technology ten times better than what we have now. Otherwise the losses to electrical resistance are too high, and you can't carry enough battery power for a transoceanic flight, or recharge it fast enough for a quick turnaround. Ground transportation may all go to electric, but planes will for quite some time to come be fuel-burning.

>Less air resistance at higher altitude
Which means more thrust to maintain lift.
Which means more energy.
You don't understand flight and airplanes at all.
>>985839
right, slow speed was one of the reasons solar flight won't be viable for the near future so what he said kinda makes sense
>>985835
>battery technology
That's the only thing you mentioned that needs more development to make it feasible. The big reason hydrocarbon fuels are so much more energy dense is that they essentially carry half their weight in the air surrounding the plane. Kinda hard to overcome that.
