I just bought a used bike. Very happy with the purchase, I have been customizing it, etc.
I want to know, though, what are these nuts on my stem for? (Pic related)
I'll also post pics of my bike.
Thanks.

If it's not clear they're like the nuts you would find on a frame for a bottle cage or something.
I have no idea, but does a bottle cage fit there???
something to do with your front brake cable?

This is my thought as well.

I don't think it's that. The front brake cable goes on the underside of the stem thru like a pulley thing.

I don't think it would fit, though I've never tried.
My best guess is it's for a cycling computer. This bike is from 1988 so maybe they were bigger then?
Here's the bike just after I acquired it.
Here's what I've done with the handlebars. Replaced the flat bar with a bullhorn style, and then added bar ends angled in for an additional grip option and something to lean on if I wanted on the long straight aways. You can kinda see how the brake cable goes in this pic... maybe not.

Bottlemount? Is it correct distance between the nuts?

I do hope that picture is an attempt at comedy.

What the fuck
100 % serious.
I'm not looking to win any beauty contests. Yeah it looks hella gaudy, but it's pretty comfy
This is it before the bar ends n grips.

honestly not that bad, although this is pretty much a worse version of butterfly bars
