I'm not sure if they're actually just as stiff (thinking about it logically I'd say they can't be whilst being lighter), rather they're stiff enough that no one would notice a difference as they wouldn't see a large enough force to flex noticeably. Basically, twin leg forks are unnecessarily stiff and in turn heavy.

In case you didn't realise they're not just forks with a leg removed, they're beefed up considerably with large proprietary stub axles permanently attached to the leg.
