Yowamushi Pedal fans of /n/, if you find me downloads to the 2015 movie, then I will translate and sub it for you. I imagine you probably like it better than /a/ does, anyway.

Otherwise, let's just have a thread about the series.

So I found a sort of bootleg version of it at my local Mitsuwa, and I'll just work with that. The picture quality isn't the best. Don't watch it in full screen unless you wanna have a really bad time. However, the sound quality is perfectly fine. Think you can all deal with that?

Literally anything would be better than what we have now, which is nothing that I can find, not even a raw. I would be quite happy with just the raw after catching up to the manga. Is there any point in watching the recap movies by the way? Or would I get more out of reading the interhigh chapters (I've only seen them animated)

Speaking of chapters, the last one I can find translated is 249, almost two months ago. I hear it got licensed but can I actually buy the translated versions of the later volumes that havent been scanned?
>>
>>941717
Looks like the release schedule for the english manga is every 4-5 months, so it will be a very long time to catch up to what was already translated. I only got as far as the last released volume. I didn't bother with the extra translated chapters that weren't overlaid on the manga since it seemed like it would be a pain in the ass to read.

But >>942060 has it right regarding the biggest demographic that actually watches sport-related animu.
>>
>>942892
Women's road racing is in a different category so it would be hard to really include them. I agree that it would be nice if the writer at least acknowledged the existence of female racers though. Women can be pretty fucking fast

By the way (spoilers for second interhigh)

Teshima waiting for Manami after his chain popped was the most disgraceful thing I've seen a sohoku member do... seriously wish Koga was the captain. I liked Teshima up to this point. Waiting is just disrespectful as fuck

The story is already juggling a lot of characters though, so I think the most we're gonna get is MAYBE a random girl who challenges one of the boys on the street
>>
>>942936
How do you figure waiting was disrespectful?
It's considered one of the unofficial rules of professional racing that you don't take advantage of an opponent's mechanical to win a race/stage.
I mean, people still do it, but they usually catch a lot of shit for it.
I can see it being selfish, because was satisfying his own desire to beat Manami in a fair contest, when the best thing for the team would be to win the mountain checkpoint. But I don't really see it as disrespectful.
>>
>>943062
>I can see it being selfish, because was satisfying his own desire to beat Manami in a fair contest, when the best thing for the team would be to win the mountain checkpoint.

This is why it's disrespectful. You think fucking Kinjou would wait for someone if their chain popped or they crashed? Honestly Teshima should be the one catching shit for basically saying "I dont need to take advantage of you to win, let's wait 30 seconds"

>It's considered one of the unofficial rules of professional racing that you don't take advantage of an opponent's mechanical to win a race/stage.
Clearly you havent seen a real road race. I havent seen ANYONE wait or slow down for someone with mechanical troubles. Because EVERYONE ELSE IS STILL FUCKING COMPETING

>>
>>943094
>Clearly you havent seen a real road race. I havent seen ANYONE wait or slow down for someone with mechanical troubles. Because EVERYONE ELSE IS STILL FUCKING COMPETING
What's considered rude is launching an attack solely to take advantage of a mechanical so a leading competitor has 0% chance of catching up to the peloton. The peloton doesn't slow down, what happens is a dom falls back, lead rider gets a new bike, dom pulls lead rider back to peloton. Of course it happens, it's just considered poor sportsmanship.

How's the chamois? Is it comfy for 4-5 hour rides? Is it functional? I saw a bunch of girls wearing these at AX last year and they looked like they were made of cotton. They were skellingtons too so I wasn't sure how my arms and legs would fit.

>>
>>947915
Check through the listings. There are cosplay-specific sets with no chamois, and there also are ones designed for riding, with a -functional- chamois and proper jersey fitting (as opposed to the almost t-shirt -esque designs of the cosplay ones)
>>
>>947915
Chammy is shit but I don't find my higher end bibs comfortable after 3+ hours so take that as you will. The ones you saw were probably cosplay specific kits and I've found the sizing to be pretty accurate to my other kits so if you're a medium I'd buy it in medium.

nope, just reading raws. there's a lot of fairly intricate commentary about biking/gear--which while interesting, is a pain to translate properly. I'm a kitoh fan but sadly very entry level when it comes to bikes.

>>
>>953367
It was nice to have a whole race in a single sitting, episodes really tended to drag along a bit too much.

What was the deal with Onoda's front derailleur flashing sparks when he got dropped on the first day climb? Was it a technical issue with his new bike? I found it odd they didn't even mention it.
Oh and I missed Midosuji

Just finished watching the film. Frankly I was disappointed, the pacing wasn't good and squashed the second day and post-race which had lots of potential, there was almost no character development, not much cycling-geekery, and most disappointing for a feature film the animation was generally just TV-grade. There were a few really neat cuts that were fun to watch, but overall it just wasn't impressive.

Actually you would be wrong, there's a great bike-related anime film called Nasu: Summer in Andalucia, and its sequel film Wataridori is also decent. And there's a neat little short called Hill Climb Girl. And if you want another show like Yowapeda but not as good there's Overdrive. And there's some goofy mountain biking in Golden Boy. And there's a character who goes touring in the series Honey and Clover (note it's not a major focus of the series, sadly).

>>
this anime alone is convincing me to buy a bicycle

what kind do i get?
>>
>>956816
Depends what kind of bike you want and how much youre willing to spend. Entry level road bikes are typically 500 to 1000 new.
>>
>>956816
You're going to want a time trial bike
>>
>>956826
yeah a road bike, what are good entry level ones?
>>956827
but those look gay
>>
>>956835
First you have to decide what style of road bike you want. Yowamushi pedal doesn't really go into this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBChWFT3oG8

Basically there's a spectrum of weight and geometries. Some are better for comfortable, longer rides.

There are literally hundreds of different bikes to choose from depending on whether or not you're willing to buy used and if you're looking good brands.
>>
>>956816
You get something similar to what Onoda rides.
>>
>>956840
idk m8 bmc is kinda pricey?
>>956839
should i absolutely buy it from a store in person or online?
>>
>>956816
>what kind do i get?
Ciclocross bike.
>>
>>956839
if it matters i am tall and heavy (cutting tho thanks to fit)
>>
>>956844
i really cant see myself riding on anything other than pavement
>>
>>956846
Then, ciclo bike with slicks, and if you go offroad, cx tires.
>>
>>956846
Get a proper road bike. Ignore the CX memester.
>>
>>956848
I tell you that because once you will start riding, you will want more bikes probably, and ride on more surfaces, so having a ciclocross bike will save you at least one extra bike. The N+1 rule is not a joke, you will know it once you start riding.
>>
>>956843
In person is better because you can be fitted. You should take your questions over to the bike buying general.

Okay, but using up 30 posts of this thread for bike buying when it's that's nearing 300 is uncool to the people that want this to be around for awhile.

You aren't going to learn what bike you want without going for a shop and test riding some. They are all subtly different in terms of price, speed, position, comfort, geometry, and most importantly, components.

If buying new: you want to get something from a good brand that has a lifetime warranty. This includes Giant, Cannondale, Trek, and Specialized. They all make road bikes for <1000. An example is the Giant Defy.

If used: Brand doesn't really matter since you arent getting any sort of warranty and you dont know if the components are what normally comes with the frame. You're looking for something functional and suitable. The main disadvantage of buying used is that you have to get sized at a bike shop first so you know roughly what size frame you need. Different brands have different sizing charts so you'll have to test ride anything for a long time before you buy it. You can always post on the bike buying general when you have a specific bike that you're thinking about going to look at.

If you haven't ridden a bike for a long time I recommend going towards something advertised for comfort instead of racing. This is typically what defines a new road bike as entry level besides the price.
>>
>>956839
shameless plug but noririn has an entire volume just for this and pretty detailed advice although most important thing they mention for a entry bike is proper sizing, ie getting a frame the right size and then adjustments etc

need typesetter tho :(
>>
>>957479

>>957665
アオバ, or really most of the cycling manga are gonna fill your daily dose of moeshit/tits. sorta surprised YP got adapted if anything

there's a few interesting ones on the wiki category for cycling manga though, namely:
-Komome Chance/Jikoman (same author)
-RETURN by Noboru Rokuda
-Jitensha Yarou which looks very much Ashita no Joe for biking
-the animated film Nasu already mentioned >>954683
but probably worth rementioning
-ツール looks good and is coauthored by a professional cyclist
http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E8%87%AA%E8%BB%A2%E8%BB%8A%E6%BC%AB%E7%94%BB

Really there's quite a few, cycling is pretty popular in japan. Most of them aren't too dated, but YP and noririn are the most recent ones I know of which aren't moeshit.

Generally though, I don't think there are many realistic cycling manga about professional cyclists, much less women who can actually ride a bike.
