This is actually great. I like how to the east it essentially emulates the Victoria line, then branches off at Northumberland Park to go to Cheshunt and beyond. A current dream for the Victoria line is services which stop at Northumberland Park somehow, well this solves it completely.

Because crossrail trains are so long (205m) and these stations are so close they essentially merge them together. You can exit/enter from either station.

Crossrail1 does the same with Faringdon-Barbican and Moorgate-Liverpool.St (pic related).

There are Northern/Bakerloo line extensions to reach out to some of those areas.
The areas you're talking about have trains, but they're not suitable for the large number of commuters. Also, anything beyond Hampton, Surbiton & Ewell West doesn't have Oyster/Contactless Coverage, so commuters coming from inland Surrey have to pay more just to commute to work in London.
