At that point a 0-degree stem would look better and put the bars at about the same height,

I have a Toba Brooklyn: out of production but very similar. With it's ridged mounting and shallow sides stuff bounces out without a net, carbonated stuff goes flat and leaks, and of course it cannot haul as much as a real rack. Still would recommend with an elastic cargo net.
But first, winter commuting with a fixie? Second, mounting any accessories on a fixie?
>Fixies are specialist bikes, and winter requires specialist bikes, but they are not the same kind of special!

>>903528
>But first, winter commuting with a fixie? Second, mounting any accessories on a fixie?

it is more of a logistical issue, I set it up as single speed, tried fg and it's not for me, I have to other bikes that sit outside because there is no space inside the apartment, and the wife does not like having 3 bikes inside, two of them being oldass mtb clunky as hell. so what with winter and all, they got rusty real fast, so I'm either going to sell them or give them away.

my third bike, the ss, is indoors because i told my wife there's no way in hell it stays outside. so long story short, I'm tired of taking the bus and I'm thinking of doing 40 kms/day of commuting to uni, so I might as well winterise the bike, an ass saver, a rack (considered the thule pack n pedal, too) and that's about it

>logistical issue
Suppose that makes sense, if you don't have the cash or space for a good dedicated winter commuter. But your fancy SS will never be any good at the job and will also get rusty fast anyway. Especially if it is always moving between your warm moist apartment and the cold cruel world; better to leave cold if you can keep it dry outside...
Studded tires and decent lights are necessary. A heavy lock and a bell might be too. Real fenders, enclosed drivetrain, non-rim brakes, bar mitts, and a snowboard helmet make it actually practical. Non of this is compatible with your bikes 'stripped-down essence of cycling' ideal. You're sure that clunky mtb is beyond saving?
>>
>>903535
>You're sure that clunky mtb is beyond saving?

i saved it once, it can be done again, just need to find the time, and maybe some tips to get the rust off the chain/cogs etc

I don't think there are many time-saving tricks here. Take everything apart, stiff wire brush, grease, new cables and stuff, put back together. A stand, bench, and real tools are helpful. If you're a poorfag you might do the DIY studded tire thing, but I never saw the point. Winter is a good time for paraffin chain lube if you're into that. Don't cheap out on the lights, they are really important!

now it makes sense, the illustrator doesn't realize it's a fixie and thought he had to add the derailleur that the photo seemingly cut off. THAT'S why there's no shifter/cables on the bar.
