Bicycles and public transport are a communist plot to destroy our freedoms! Bike lanes and HOV lanes are a Chinese plot to destroy American freedom, think of it, Bicycles are made in China, and public transportation like commuter trains and buses rely on communist subsides promoted by commie cells in America.

Why do you hate freedom so much /n/?

What good is freedom in a world where there's only one choice to pick? Automobiles are great technology, but without any rational oversight, American cities have become places where one transportation mode has gained a near monopoly, to the detriment of citizens who have been reduced to mere consumers.

What good is capitalism if people are deprived of the fruits of their labor? Food, water, shelter, clothing... add gasoline and high-interest car loan payments to the mandatory living expenses of average Americans. The invisible hand of the free market has been shackled to a steering wheel.
>>
>Bicycles are made in China,
Bicycles are made in the Republic of China aka Taiwan.
>>
>>1096802
>all cars require registration, licensing, insurance, and computer system to track you at all times
>missing out on exercise, the ability to go offroad, and portability
I can't imagine anyone who actually likes freedom would use a car
Bait thread, but there are people who actually believe this stuff, and the Chinese are more free than USA anyway
>>
Everything is made in China

That's because Communism is the best economic model.

Sure thing Chairman Merida,
>What good is freedom in a world where there's only one choice to pick?
that's why we have plenty of made in America freedom options from Ford, Chev, to Harley Davidson. But we also have great freedom Boats and Jets Comrade, by Zodiac and, Lockheed and stuff.

Free market is great Pinko, everyone has the chance to work hard and climb to the top to one day become the CEO of a great company and produce great freedom machines.

Bikesheviks want to take our freedoms away
>>
Can someone explain the phenomenon of /n/?
It's such a slow board yet every 2nd thread is some bored faggot baiting.
Why? You don't see that on other slow boards.

Delete this thread
what a weak baiter

>What good is freedom in a world where there's only one choice to pick?
That's your fault. Commission elevated bike roads.
Low cost, light infrastructure that also prevents many of the hazards associated with motor vehicle use.

>but without any rational oversight
Kill yourself statist.

>American cities have become places where one transportation mode has gained a near monopoly, to the detriment of citizens who have been reduced to mere consumers.
Take an econ class, non-government induced monopolies are a paper tiger.
Keynesian doesn't count.

>What good is capitalism if people are deprived of the fruits of their labor?
... Because people sell their labor to their employers you fucking moran.
Want to keep the fruits of your labor? Become a libertarian and vote away taxes and employ yourself.

>Food, water, shelter, clothing...
Positive rights are inherently illegitimate.

>add gasoline and high-interest car loan payments to the mandatory living expenses of average Americans.
No one is forcing you to live a financially unsustainable life. Stop advocating population centers and most problems go away on their own.

>The invisible hand of the free market has been shackled to a steering wheel.
The overt hand of the state...

The auto monopoly is government induced you dumb faggot.
>>
>>1097437
Shut the fuck up. Libertarianism is an untenable fantasy invented by French aristocrats to justify their whoring every weekend. It's fucking nonsense.
>>
>>1097447
>Taiwan
I think you mean Chinese Taipei
>>
>>1097455
You again? Accept it, the french revolution was a mistake.
All libertarianism requires is that people accept that the price of liberty for oneself is liberty for others.
Stop being a statist.

>>1097452
No moreso than rivers in national parks having a monopoly on water.

>The auto monopoly is government induced you dumb faggot
nothing is stopping you or anyone else to invent a better form of transportation than the gasoline car. In fact please do, the world will thank you and praise your name till someone comes up with something even better.
>>
>>1097514
>wat is incumbent
>wat is sunk infrastructure cost
>wat is massive government sponsorship
>>
>>1097519
so you need to use existing infrastructure

>Diesel doesn't work because it pollutes more than gas
>Electric doesn't work because batteries have batteries have 200< mile range and long recharge time
>hydrogen doens't work because of the energy to produce hydrogen pollutes more than just having gas cars.

if you want to replace gas cars go to university and apply for grants to make hydrogen cheaply and easily. trust me the money is there because that patent will be worth trillions
>>
>>1097536
>so you need to use existing infrastructure
Then there can be no meaningfull improvement. The auto industry pork that is tax funded highways is what's making modern cities unliveable and driving sprawl, inducing demand.

sooooo........ you want to go back to the midevil village?

horse and buggy too?

or bicycle?

Denmark exists you know, go there and leave the rest of us alone. Maybe you can wear some wooden shoes too, and maybe even stick a finger in a dyke.
>>
>>1097551
It's funny because Denmark is not medieval. They don't travel in horse drawn carriages. Compared to Stockholm/Oslo or nearby Malmoe/Gothenburg Copenhagen is a very car centric city. They have bikes, but that's not nearly making up for the lack of rail. Stockholm has the metro, Gothenburg its trams, Maloe is connected with the whole of Scania by commuter rail and Oslo are banning cars outright.
Yet still these are some of the highest standard of living countries on earth. Even when held back by rapefugees.
And yes, I already live here.

So ... your argument is invalid. :)
>>
>>1097536
Anon, why would you ever want to drive a bomb?
The future is extended range electric. Pollutants don't matter because of absurdly increased efficiency.
>>
>>1097540
Yes... The problem with population centers is always external, the problem with population centers could never be that they are population centers.
They must be inherently good things because light rail fetishes.
>>
>>1097559
sounds like hell

how do you avoid people of lower classes?

what motivation do people have to improve their lot if everyone is forced into public transport? can you reserve seats on the bus? pay more for ones closer to the front? Oh that bicycle is fancier than mine, i must work harder to obtain one like it?
>>
>>1097568
>what motivation do people have to improve their lot if everyone is forced into public transport?
They don't.
Did you ever wonder why communism was so popular with soviet artists, musicians, beggars, drunkards, and idiots?
Ever wonder why young men with potential hated it so much?
>>
>>1097568
>what motivation do people have to improve their lot if everyone is forced into public transport?
Because they don't have to spend their lives in transit? They get on the tram, ride 20 min, get home to their humble flat or three story house and live very different lives.
If the only goal you can imagine for yourself is owning a more expensive car than your peers you fucking need help man, and I mean that in a most sincere way.>>1097570
>>what motivation do people have to improve their lot if everyone is forced into public transport?
>They don't.
Ah, so that's why the Scandinavian countries are some of the richest in the world. Because no one is motivated to work. Gotcha.

Jesus, the stupid in some of you people...
>>
>>1097566
tell us what magical technology will extend electric cars into the 700km+ range? I can drive from Calgary to Vancouver, leave with a full tank and fill up in Kamloops in under 10 min and arrive in Van with 1/2 a tank. that drive in a Tesla would get me to Banff, 6hr charge, to golden 6 hr charge, to Revelstoke (if lucky) 6 hr charge, to Kamloops 6hr charge, to Hope 6 hr charge and into Vancouver with no power. The drive would take 40 or more hours instead of 9 1/2hours, even if you doubled the range it would still suck.
>>
>>1097568
probably has to do with a decent amount of western European countries don't have that many low class individuals since the absolute worst someone can be is someone who can work but chooses not to, so there is an large amount of social pressure to get a job and to work at least 40 hrs a week.
I knew a guy a while ago that would tell how it wasn't that uncommon for people who's friends and family would cut ties completely simply because they where unable to find a new job within a few weeks of quitting the old one and it usually took a while of the person working at a new job for them to attempt to reconnect.
>>
>>1097572
What the fuck are those fake names and units?

>500 mile car
Here is the principle of extended range electric:
Engines have mass, as do batteries.
Chemical energy storage has excellent energy density (by mass), batteries have beyond horrible energy density.
Engines rarely operate at their most efficient rpm and need to be oversized to meet the needs of the road at any given time.
Batteries are shit. Engines are less shit.

If you use a generator instead of an engine then you can make the engine lighter, more efficient, and always use the most efficient rpm.
You successfully ditched most of the weight of the engine, and have all the benefits of electric vehicles and the minimal amount of their faults. You have a quick and easy means of providing energy, linear torque curves, and low weight.

tl;dr
physics says extended range electric is best.
>>
>>1097575
I forgot to mention that extended range electric keeps the engine almost always on and generating near, at, or above average power consumption, and that only a bare minimum of batteries are used.

Less dead weight (engine), less nearly dead weight (batteries), same amount of fuel.
You can make it from poutine to baby seal on a single tank (or with a single refuel, idk what size tank you have).

>Ah, so that's why the Scandinavian countries are some of the richest in the world.
you got lucky with off shore oil extraction
scandinavia has no industry, Volvo and Saab lost out to BMW and Mercedes because they understand luxury. Sure Volvo exists but only really for Chinese who want a "western car".

I feel sorry that you will never know the pleasure of sitting in a soft leather reclined chair, with the cold AC blowing in your face and sweet music coming from premium Bang & Olufsen stereo, as you cruse down an open freeway. or travel through a smelly and noisy downtown isolated from the riffraff.
>>
>>1097577
>you got lucky with off shore oil extraction
No, sweetie that's just Norway, and fishery and tourism is as important if not more. Compare US oil production to Norway some day and you might learn something.
Sweden has steel, ore and forresting as well as IT, IP and entertainment industry. Heard of Eriksson, Spotify, Dice, Bofors, AstraZeneca and Scania? IP industry giant.
Denmark is basically one big farm country and produce a fuckton of food for all if northern Europe. Not to mention Bang Olufsen and the rest of their whole design and IP industry.

No, little one. Scandinavia is not Quatar. It was wealthy as fuck long before the Norwegian oil boom.

Measurement error and varying definition. Also universal health care that leads to marginalised people living to get a chance to take their own life rather than succumbing to the effects of """self medication""" and other issues.
Notice how suicide rates are actually marginally higher in the US than the Nordic countries at the right side of the graph now that we're starting to measure the same things.
>Sweden has a suicide rate which is below the OECD average.[1] During the 1960s, Sweden had one of the highest reported suicide rates in the First World, but it declined as methods for measuring were standardized internationally.[2]
>According to a 2011 article in The New York Times, "Numerous studies have shown that places like Denmark and Sweden that consistently score high on measures of happiness and life satisfaction also have relatively high suicide rates." Said article also reported, "Some social scientists speculate that the trends are probably unrelated and can be explained by regional factors like dark winters or cultural differences regarding suicide."[5]
