I'm making a video game where there's a huge area that's off-limits because of a massive train crash. It's going to be implied that the train was secretly carrying nerve gas. The game is set in a vague time period that's somewhere within 35 years of present day. Is there a specific model of train that I should research? Does anyone have any good reference photos for me to make the 3D model? It preferably should look like a train to people, but I think going to, like, an iconic steam-engine train is probably too much.

Bump, no idea what the answer is but this sounds cool.
Screenshot of non-train-related area of game for bump.

> It's going to be implied that the train was secretly carrying nerve gas
Model it after the Tokyo subway.

Where is the game set? And when you say "within 35 years of present day", do you mean 35 years in the past or 35 years in the future?

Both directions. It's got a mix of technology. Landline phones, but lazer guns, and VR, too. It's set in a shitty pit stop of a town where something horribly wrong has happened and you can't tell reality from hallucination / delirium.

sounds cool. From the screen you posted it looks more like it's based on US-american designs, so out of all the recent-ish american passenger trains i think the Metroliner is a perfect fit. It has that cool retro-futuristic vibe and also looks like it could be a tank car.

or maybe something more euro?

That's great, thanks!

I understand this reference.

Apology for poor english
What you need, I think, is the idea of a train.
Let me give you an example. When you think of cars, the idea of the car is somehow always a square box with two wheels, seen from the side. Thus, the idea of the car comes to resemble a volvo 240. If it's a sportscar, the idea of the car will be an open mazda miata. So you need to think of how you can make a train, make it cool, without people misunderstanding the idea. I don't know if I'm making myself understandable here. Go for an easy-to-understand solution. Push-pull locomotive with carriages. It has always been the best solution, and always will be. In every aspect of life.
If it was carrying nerve gas I would guess you'd want it to be a freight train?
There's also a thread about electric freight trains here: >>1067178
