Electric freight thread. Share your rare freights running under the wire

The Virginian has an interesting history. Started by a millionaire and an engineer. Grades were so extreme they had to run electrics on certain parts of the main line.
>>1067178
Melbourne's L clas loco used to do freight how ever i think they took more suburban passenger trains than freight. they were in sevice between 1953 to 1987
>>1067178
BC Rail: GF6C's that ran on the Tumbler Ridge branchline They never should have scrapped them.
The MILW also had some electrics that were interesting.

not my photo and technically not under the wire, but a rare electric freight nevertheless. I saw it in person a couple months ago and it's a fucking beauty.

Where and what is this?
>>1068806
>what
its a german E 95, built in 1927 for heavy electric freight trains in southern Silesia. At that time Silesia was the proving ground for electrical traction for the Prussian/German Railways, because it had lots of heavy industry and a very challenging topography. The E 95 was also used for passenger services later on. This specific loco was refurbished in 1959 in the GDR and used in regular operation till 1969. It survived scrapping as a stationary transformer is now preserved with the goal of eventual making it operational, though im not sure if they will ever get to that point.
>where
Currently it's in a small museum in Arnstadt, Thuringia, which is where the pic was taken.
I live in Yurop so pretty much all of them?

It is no more. Too prohibitive to run due to various overheads
In the case of Sweden, there were no notable coal or oil deposits while hydro power was plentiful. Every noteworthy piece of track got electrified as a consequence. Diesels are mostly used for switching, picking up and leaving and the odd low-traffic routes in the deep forests that have yet to become electrified.

I thought this was a model train
>>1069184
It's called "tilt-shift" photography. Look it up even though that's not really an example of it since they didn't use a tilt-shift lense but instead just edited it afterwards.

Nice..
I don't know why, but I love these electric bricks that the PRR and Penn Central ran.

For some dumb reason I think that's neat.
Anyways, I wonder what those electric units sounded like.
Is this relevant?

now this is a rare freight
Prussian EG 708, originally intended for local freight trains in Berlin, built in 1913, relocated after to Silesia, then used as shunters in Munich for a couple years and decommissioned in 1928.

Feels bad man...

It's no looker
Now that Kato is making an N scale Olympian Hiawatha set it would be awesome if they produced a Little Joe model to go along with it.
Could /n/'s trainspotters help me out with a question? I've been trying to find a locomotive that fits the appearance of the middle train tiny inset at the bottom right of this 1944 (according to filename) advertisement for Alco locomotives. The one on the left looks like a DL 203 or 109, and the one on the right is clearly the famous and classic New York Central Hudson, but I can't quite find a fit for the center model that could have existed prior to the end of WWII, though it bears superficial resemblance to the postwar Union Pacific GTELs.
>>1092543
1. It's a fictional locomotive, in case you weren't already aware
2. The closest thing I can think of is the EMC E2, but that's still not quite right
>>1092575
Why would it be fictional though? The other examples given are clearly an ALCO DL-series and the 4-6-4 Dreyfuss Hudson.
Better pic, it's clearly got the attachments for overhead electric cables
>>1092577
Alco never built an electric locomotive like that, but when this ad was produced, there were still a handful of electric freight lines who could have conceivably ordered one from them. They also may have been anticipating further electrification in the post-war era.
>>1092579
Ah ok thank you for that explanation. In return, have a Santa Fe Erie Built.
>>1092580
That is indeed a nice machine, but I personally prefer the C-Liner.
>>1092578
I tried asking around about it but no one seems to recognize it. In fact they openly wonder if it may be a concept drawing. Afterall, in 1944 there wasn't a whole lot built but excitement was running high with the diesel-electric locomotive & streamlined designs.
>>1092581
As one C-liner fan to another, do you have those demonstrators in high res color?
>>1088994
ahahahahahahaa looks better than all other locos in this thread

It looks very similar to this thing called an "E3B" but I can't really find any other images or information on it

As a fun fact the overhead equipment is still there its just rotting away.
>>1093701
Huh... I wondered about that. I was thinking of checking that line out if I get a job at the Site-C project.
I just realized I know a retired guy who worked for BC Rail and helped design the GF6C's.

I miss these so fucking much. 253s are just soulless pieces of german crap. At least I see a couple 251s every now and then.
