Fick off.

This. I don't drive because I don't have the money for it but if I did it'd be an auto, I see no benefit to driving manual and I'd enjoy it more having one less thing to focus on.

Do you focus on shifting on your bike or is it just a thing you instinctively do?
Manual is the same. You don't really have to "focus" on it since it is an autmated process. It gives you another link to the car which adds a bit of old timey feeling of control.
The older the car the more interesting.
I like it but I also like auto, just nobody that I know ever had an auto.
>>
>>1038458
di2 electronic shifting automatically controlled by a cadence/watt computer or don't ride
>>
>>1038458
Hardly the same since the freehub on the bike acts as an automaticly actuated clutch.
>>
>>1038458
>it gives you another link to the car which adds a bit of old timey feeling of control.
But there's not actually any benefit from the added control for ordinary driving. I don't care how instinctive it can become over time (to begin with it won't be anywhere near as simple as shifting a bike) if there's no reason to do it.

A car also requires many more things to focus on compared to riding a bike, getting rid of one will always be beneficial.
>>
>>1038464
>>1038467
the process is a tad more complex as in a bike, nevertheless it is automatic.
I learned driving with manual and for me it is just part of driving a car. I don't think about it and I don't recall it throwing me off guard.
>>
>>1038469
Also: Haven't you heard? Feelings count as fact these days.
>>
>>1038469
>nevertheless it is automatic.
But it's not. It may appear instinctive to you now but it wasn't always that way, and if you switch to another car that differs in some way it will take you some time to adjust.
>>
Unless you're doing some special activity where rpms and torque matter, like driving on siberian roads or racing, automatic is much more sensible.
There's literally no reason to think about these things when you're just commuting.

t. learnt on manual, drove some automatic
>>
>>1038458
Most automatics have a semi-automatic setting if I need to stay in a low gear.

Difference in fuel economy has become minimal iirc.
>>
>>1038439
>needing 4 appendages to operate your vehicle instead of 2
>>
>>1038501
Dual clutch automated manuals ditch the torque converter which made up most of the fuel economy difference between autos and manuals.
>>
>People trying to justify being lazy drivers and act as if driving a manual transmission is difficult or requires intense concentration.
I guess you can't text your boyfriend about how much you want to suck his cock nearly as easily compared to an automatic.
>>
>>1038439
Spoken like someone who doesn't commute in any traffic.
>>
>>1038536
You're right, manual transmissions are better for effectively utilizing the 240 horsepower of your riced wannabe v6, but most people are trying to get places safely and without worry, believe it or not.

If you need to focus on shifting gear then you
"can't even drive".
Stay the fuck off my roads.
>>

Yeah nobody would drive a manual in heavy traffic. It's impossible.

Daily reminder that driving manual is top tier theft prevention.
>>
>>1041041
You're fucking retarded. Just because you can do doesn't make it pleasant.

If automatic is an overall neutral experience and manual on a windy road with no traffic is a good experience, then driving manual in heavy traffic is a dog shit experience.

>>1041067
No, that wouldn't be an immobilizer.
>>
>>1041074
I look forward to having an auto car but manual is more /fun/ when you're nipping around, it is definitely a rewarding action when you get it right on those down shifts, but obviously you'll be safer, faster and ultimately more comfortable in traffic with an auto.
Why this is being discussed is beyond me, the pros and cons are already apparent.

ive been driving in the swiss alps with a manual and it was fun as fuck. But I think traffic jam driving would be very frustrating.

Also dat 993 Turbo in pic related, what an absolutely magnificent car that is.
>>
>>1041074
>Just because you can do doesn't make it pleasant.

It doesn't make it unpleasant, either. It just is.

I have driven both auto & manual. In heavy traffic there is no difference (you barely get out of 2nd anyway). At speed manual is far superior in all ways.

tl;dr: Manual always wins. Now stop being a little bitch and learn to use your left leg.
>>
>>1041244
It just makes you feel superior. Mechanically, manual is now objectively inferior in terms of optimizing engine performance. It's not 1980 anymore.
>>
>>1038442

>>
>>1041074

Automatic on an icy road in heavy traffic is nightmare-tier.

I like having actual control of my vehicle. It is important enough to me that I am willing to spend two hours of my day riding the clutch.

Anyone unwilling should simply not be allowed to drive anything, ever, period. If control of your vehicle is a hardship to you, you don't belong in control of a vehicle.

I approve of this statement, only fools and the less than capable drive automatic.

I want to control a vehicle completely, not be thrown around by the ridiculously sensitive brakes/accelerator of an automatic

Not to mention, there's nothing better than changing gears manually

Manual cars are cheaper too
>>
>>1038478

Not him but I jump between different cars often. Sometimes up to 6 a day and travel through mountainous terrain with wreckless drivers.

They come in all shapes, sizes, transmissions and driving hands (Left hand dive or right hand drive)

Sure it takes the first thousand feet in a new car to get a vibe for its ride but that applies to both manual and automatic. My main concern is being able to gauge it's width as we are constantly squeezing through gaps.

I jump between; RHD automatic crossover to a LHD manual pickup to a RHD manual cabover dumptruck to a RHD automatic off roader to a LHD luxo barges, no problem. All that is a normal scenario as I work for one company, manage another, trying to get another going and have my own shit.

Automatic or manual is no problem in flat terrain. in traffic is the same, either is neither here nor there if you can actually drive and observe traffic flow, but as soon as you start looking at hills manuals make so much more sense.

The only "automatic only" advocates I know are the people who actually spend more time worrying about things other than driving. Americans mainly, pretty much exclusively.

You niggers can rant and rave about how you have to be so "aware" on a bicycle but as soon as you step into a car you fulfill the stereotype of being a filthy cager.

I also ride bicycles, motorbikes, pilot power and sail boats under 81 feet, walk and fly kites.....sometimes jump
>>
USAfag here, I used to drive a right-hand-steer MGB and it was fun as fuck. Now I'm on bicycles and motorcycles 99%of the time, though I drive my GF's automatic PT cruiser once in a while.

Motorcycles are the most fun motor vehicles, bar none. Even my TU250x is more fun than any sports car I've ever driven.

Thank god you cleared that up. That's why in Germany commuters regularly have to flee their cars in despair and are being treated for PTSD. If only they knew ...

For having a blast, yes manual. But for the hum drum of driving to work, i will settle for merely steering my moving couch of a Chrysler
>>
>>1041036
In my case that would include a 300% increase in travel time...
>>
>>1038467

Manual cars are cheaper and if your transmission fucks up it's cheaper as well to repair it. Less complication to fix a manual transmission than an automatic.
>>
>>1043190

>implying you should be allowed to steer

>>
>>1041067
This is the biggest benefit, yes. Manual is awesome when everything is in good shape and you are on the right roads. Otherwise stop and go is a waste of time. And yes, bus or train is even better.

But its like having different bikes for BMX/Dirt/Commuting. There's no one way.

And it doesn't add inches to your dick, grills don't care, etc.

You still have to ease up on the pedals. You can't just shift with full weight on a pedal stroke
>>
>>1038464
>noncyclist spotted
It is actually the opposite as shifting a bike _requires_ that you are not freewheeling. No pedaly - no shifty. You just have to pedal with the exact right let-off of force to make the shift maximally smooth and not risk damaging the drivetrain.
>>
>>1043673
