How hard would it take to turn a collectible bike into an adventure

I actually did see one of these in town this summer. Looked like it was being used as a beater/grocery getter.

Closest thing to what I would call a "collectable" bike from that era is a Santa Cruz-built Bontrager Race Lite.

Most definately not. Early 90's Cannondale head shocks used to be a friggin nightmare to service. They all ran on needle bearings that were a nigtmare to service - creating a vicious cycle where no body could afford to service them - hence they didn't get serviced and would fail BER.
