New Jersey Transit train 1614 crashed into the Hoboken, NJ train station at speed. Around 9:00 AM the train went off the end of the rails through a wall and into the station's reception area causing a roof collapse on the platform. Witnesses say there was no apparent braking.

Enjoy the automation legislation.

now they will close the station all week as well, time to construct a new terminal. its funny how they local news coverage seem terrified to show any injuries constantly blurring the screen of any footage they air

Anyone know if trains are still running to and from NYC further down the line??
>>
>>1012096
he just apologised for saying "deadman switch" lmao it must be frustrating for them to do live coverage of an accident
>>
>>1012075
>Hoboken
And nothing of value was lost.

>>1012109
That's just ridiculous.

So, what's the cause?
>witnesses say the heard a man screaming allah ackbar as the train plowed into the station.
>>
>>1012109
It's called an alerter anyways.

And no, alerters do not put trains "in emergency." They put it into penalty braking which reduces the brake pipe pressure to 0 at a service rate. Same as suppression.
>>
>>1012100
"Further down"

All lines are still working, if you mean specifically that NJ one then I guess not, I wouldn't expect any other line or track to be affected if it doesn't run on that track or line. So yes. Maybe a delay because people need to use other routes. But they will always be working if it's not the one with an accident.

Stupid question really.

Trains that terminate at Hoboken are stopping at Secacus. Bus 126 will take Hoboken riders to the Port Authority. PATH has resumed operation.

This is what happens when fat fucking retard union idiots get control of public sectors. Second nasty crash in the philly/ ny / nj area

Fuck unions fuck government inefficiency. All railroads should privatized

Interact with one septa or nj transit employee if you don't believe me
>>
>>1012402
It's more a problem with passenger railroads. They fuck everything up.
>>
why did this event happen
>>
>>1012402
We tried private RR in the 20th century
>thousands of companies
>many guages of rail
>collusion of companies into trusts/monopolies
>price fixing and unfair pricing
When you let the jew run free, he will destroy everything for that is his nature
>>
>>1012402
Railroads did not want to run passenger trains so they got Nixion to make Amtrak so they woulden't have to be burdened with them.

>>

They were losing the railroads money. A lot of money.

Wasn't that in the spooky alert "test" the day before on a local newscast?
>>

30,800 killed in car accidents in 2012
12 killed in train accidents in 2012

it's amazing how car related deaths are ignored in the media

Are we forgetting that USA is the only country in the world that requires cab signalling for anything over 90 mph (while UK does 125 mph only on light signals)?

And that the railways have a unfair competition against heavily subsidized highways and airports?

Of course we are.

Back in 1900 USA had the same railway mileage as China has TODAY, except costing $0.00 on taxpayer's money.

The only reason USA is not the leader in passenger rail transport is sabotaging.

It's 79 mph, brah.

49 mph is the speed limit unsignaled territory if you were curious.

A lot of Japan's railways are privatized... oh man, it sure doesn't work, better let government do it.
>>
>>1015941
>Back in 1900 USA had the same railway mileage as China has TODAY, except costing $0.00 on taxpayer's money.
Not exactly. 19th century American railroads were subsidized with government land grants (the idea being that the railroads would sell the land around their right of way to finance construction), and for most of the 19th century there wasn't any federal income tax - government revenue came primarily from the tariff that imposed customs fees on imported goods.

>The only reason USA is not the leader in passenger rail transport is lobbying.

Interstate system, post war economic boom where everyone could afford a car, dirt cheap gas and other factors that favored the automobile did it.
>>
Good news. Some platforms are open in Hoboken so there is partial service and people can collect the junk they left on the train. LIRR train sideswiped a work train east of New Hyde Park and derailed. Its been fixed now.
>>
>hire niggers muzzies and spics
>hire sjw dumbass females to oversee them
>be surprised when quality of service decreases

Liberals everyone.

>>1015943

This. We HAD plenty of public transit in the golden years, then big oil and the auto industry tore it down and forced us to buy their shitmobile cages. Now we have suburbia and endless shitty crumbling roads that cost a fortune. THANKS LEGAL LOBBYING. I'm really feeling that democracy.

spoiler alert the biggest accidents have been white legacy operators ( white old guys smoking the reefer, lol Conrail slamming into a passenger train) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cc4NVhhicY so please, try harder.

>Interstate system
ie lobbying

>post war economic boom where everyone could afford a car
But why would they need one? Because streetcars were being massively shut down due to lobbying against them.

>dirt cheap gas
low taxes thanks to, you guessed it, lobbying

t. not the guy you were replying to
>>
>>1017154
Most streetcars were down before WWII
>>
>>1017160
You're full of shit. Small and pointless systems were shut down, but the majority of major systems were closed down (totally or partially) after the war.

the jew of GM bought out all the mass transportation and killed it to end competition. They also wanted to do it to airplanes but the government stepped in on that one.

GM was the single largest manufacturer of locomotives at the time, so obviously they hated rail...

Wrong.

Interstate was built to forestall a recession after the Korean War.
New housing was developed in what was then the boonies and accessible only by car to encourage automotive transit
G.I. Bill gave you money to buy a car/a home accessible only by car to subsidise the auto industry
>>
>>1017175

>>1017235
>Interstate was built to forestall a recession after the Korean War.
It was designed to move troops and war materials easily and efficiently in case of Russian invasion.
>>
>>1017213
GM owned a piece of American Transit Lines along with Firestone tire but quite a few ATL systems still had trolleys. LA still had streetcars when ATL ran its system. The MTA got rid of the last cars and other non ATL systems got rid of their trolleys.

>>1017175
>>1017385
It would be pretty cool if metro painted their LRVs red instead of grey for a change, though it's probably never happening because their old steel ones need to blend in with the new stainless trains.

>>1017186
Doesn't look all that great desu. The real action is in the interurbans, not the local streetcars.

Is that pic even PE? I thought a different company operated most of the street running lines in DTLA
