Getting a little bit into rock, liking Dream Theater. Any recommendations that's similar or you highly recommend.
I like Iron Maide
i'm gonna get crucified for saying this but i've never listened to dream theater, however i would recommend animals as leaders

dream
theater
fucking
sucks
But based on your interest in them, I'd say listen to Rush.
If you like fancy, complicated stuff (which I understand Dream Theater to be), then I would highly suggest the Mahavishnu Orchestra, particularly their live album Between Nothingness and Eternity

Dream Theater sucks listen to Porcupine Tree instead
tool!

What do you like? I'm very open, I may check em out.

dream theater is a perfectly ok band. check out their alive album for some heavier stuff, and make sure to listen to images and words, which is their classic album

My personal prog-rock recommendations? I'm not too familiar or even fond of the genre, but as I said Rush is great and you'd also probably like Yes. I love Mastodon and Animals as Leaders but they're not really as symphonic or campy as Dream Theater, Rush or Yes. Still very intricate and interesting shit. King Crimson's also cool.
As for some favourite rock albums in general right now:
>Teens of Denial by Car Seat Headrest
>Silent Alarm by Bloc Party
>Dissociation by The Dillinger Escape Plan

that and Scenes from a Memory.

useful post
however i would keep away from dillinger, animals & the like at first. if you like dream theater as a relatively straightforward, easy listenting thing, postpone them a bit

yeah, many do consider it a classic. however i never, not even once, was able to just lay down and listen to it in full without falling asleep somewhere in the middle. dunno why
Rush is a really good and logical next band, like it's been said. Listen to 2112 and Moving Pictures, then either go back to Hemispheres/Farewell To Kings if you liked the prog stuff, or go forward to Grace Under Pressure if you liked the catchy side more. If you liked it, maybe jump to something like Radiohead or New Order for more synth-heavy/poppy rock.
Pink Floyd and King Crimson are good too, ITCOTCK, DSOTM, Animals, all really good prog albums.

Ok, listened to a couple songs of Rush and first impressions the lead singers vocals may not my cup of tea. Also sounds a tad bit dated to my virgin ears.
Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to listen to complete works before I start judging. Good night yall

Geddy takes some time getting used to, but he isn't that much worse than LaBrie desu.

>Dream Theater sucks, but Animals as Leader and Dillinger Escape Plan are better bands
