ITT we discuss musical revolutions, what constitutes and causes one, and what the next one may end up like.
Lets get some definitions going
A revolution (from the Latin revolutio, "a turn around") is a fundamental change in political power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time when the population rises up in revolt against the current authorities.
Music is vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
Why did such a mediocre band like the beatles become so famous?

Epic bait
All I can say is the next revolution will not be anything to do with rock. It's more likely to be a result of technlogical changes in how people listen to music than purely musical shifts, too.
I don't quite think we'll have a revolution anytime soon. I can't think of a recent album that has had a lasting impact on the music scene in terms of composition. Maybe Yung Lean, which pretty much kickstarted all that codeined sadboy cloudtrap style. There hasn't been something that took the entire music industry out of nowhere and sounded revolutionary, everything's just a bit too similar.
a picture of the future, imagine top 40 pop and pop rap stamping on a human face — forever.
Next revolution: using sounds created by touching the microphone itself in explicitly musical ways. As far as I know, this is really only done in ASMR stuff, and even if you don't get "muh tingles" it's hard to say that touching the microphone itself doesn't lead to some interesting sounds that are irreproducable otherwise.
(Also microphone touching at least for me is less about tingles and more about IT SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS BURROWING INSIDE MY EAR FUCK)
i believe rock will make a comeback when a sincerity movement happens, and performed music will be seen as more evocative than produced music
