Saving up for a good guitar and I'm torn.
I would love a Gibson SG but also a Gibson Firebird. Which is the better choice?
the SG can be a bit narrow in tonal possibilities. It lacks the warmth and thickness of other Gibson guitars. I'd opt for the Firebird, although it has two disadvantages to the SG:
1. Its weight
2. Its lack of a double cutaway neck, making it more challenging to access the higher frets

Non reverse firebird is the Patrician choice

I updated to a Gibson Les Paul from an Epiphone Les Paul a month ago.
If you're really looking to save money, you should buy an Epiphone ranging from $400-800 and then buy $200 pickups to replace the factory models.
An Epiphone is a respectable guitar and I still use my Epiphone. The two main differences between an Epiphone and a Gibson are the sustain and the playability; the Gibson just fits like a glove, whereas the the Epiphone is absolutely playable buy feels a bit more clunky and shapeless compared to the Gibson. As far as sustain goes, I can hold my Gibson from the base of the guitar, pluck a string, and feel the body vibrate for 30 seconds. With the Epiphone, it vibrates for maybe 10 seconds.
If the Gibson is a 10/10, the Epiphone is somewhere from a 6.66/10 to a 7.5/10.
I can take any more questions if you want.

Gibson has been in a downhill in biuld quality from what i read (poor sudaca fag, can't even afford epi) many rather buy an upper tier epiphone than a gibson of the same price
the are also many other manufacturers in the usa than can make kickass guitars for whatever you wanna spend on the gibson, instagram is flooded with them.
PRS is kind of the market leader at this point in time

actually, I'd say the Epiphone is about a 7.5/10 fresh from the store, but I got the nut replaced and the guitar tech did a poor job.

PRS makes excellent and varied models, I really hope they gain more respect. They're unfortunately seen by many as the definition of cringey alt-rock guitars from the late 90s and early 00s. I played their main model in a store (I forget the name) and was really amazed by its brightness and playability. There was very little tension on the neck, from what I recall.

OP could save some money buying 2nd hand pickups.
The only SG I've ever found comfortable to play on is my 70s "the sg"
I've never played a Firebird, but I love SGs
