I get recommended japanese music a lot on here. Now this by itself isn't a bad thing, hell I love finding bands from other countries and seeing how their culture affects their work, but for some strange reason every japanese band I here sounds like they would be in an anime opening. This throws me off and I end up not being able to listen to them. So my question is why does so much of japanese music sound like it belongs in anime? Is it due to the different scales they use or something completely different?

I noticed that Japan has a unique way of writing melodies. I don't know how I would describe it but perhaps its developed around the idiosyncrasies of the language itself.
