I can't think of a better album for this than Still from Nine Inch Nails.

The deconstructed versions of Something I can Never Have and Becoming help capture the anger and rage that the person you thought you would spend the rest of your life with is now dead to you. The deconstructed version of Fragile reminds you of happier, better times and The Day The Whole World Went Away creates a sort of acceptance to the whole situation.

Then the instrumental pieces further pull you down until you end at And All That Could Have Been...and realize that it was never going to work from the beginning. How did you both miss the warning signs? Could it have changed course? It was always tainted and now it's nothing.
