Hey, /mu/. I was wondering if anyone on here would know of, and be kind enough to rec, some "abrasive" punk that still has a sense of basic pop sensibilities? Something in the vein of pic related would be nice. I tried going through the rest of GG's discog, but it doesn't hold up as most of it is trash (aside from his first album), and that this compilation cherry picks from the best of his material released up until this comp's release. Any and all recs would be greatly appreciated.

My advice is DON'T get ANY post 1985 GG Allin.
Stick to The Jabbers any anything after that up to 1985. If you get anything after Boozing and Pranks, you've gone too far. Do a google search for his complete discography, and remember DON'T get You Give Love A Bad Name or anything released after that. It just goes to shit from there.

I listened to the first 39 seconds of the first proper song and it sounds like most punk. Is it really that much more abrasive than The Ramones?

Not OP but post 85 GG is so abrasive, I find it absolutely unlistenable. (Of course there are die hard GG fans who will say that this was his BEST stuff, but I prefer the pre 85 GG)

The song I listened to was "I wanna fuck myself" and it was intensely derivative.

A lot of people say that.
Yeah, it's basically MOR punk with pop sensibilities. The only thing that differentiates it from The Ramones are the sexually explicit lyrics. If you're into that stuff, it's good. If you're not, then it's best to move on. The extreme stuff come after 85, and most of those recordings sound like the master tape was shoved up somebody's ass, and so do the records/C.D.s.

What's MOR punk?
>>
Volcano Suns maybe? They're more haunting and spooky than abrasive, but the occasional dissonance and killer hooks may be what you are looking for. The vocals are really the highlight for this band oddly enough.

Besides that maybe some noise rock and no wave? That's more of what I listen to in terms of rock music.
