i would get the tr-8 over the drum brute but im not sure how it would go for with prog rock

Well the tr-8 only has the 909 and 808 sounds unless you pay another $100 for the 707 and 606 expansion. I haven't used the drumbrute but you can likely get a much wider variety of sounds. Depends if you want to craft more original sounds or use ones that have been used literally a million times already (not saying it in a bad way). I'd go for the tr-8 because I prefer those sounds.

the Drum brute does have Polyrhythm mode which is a big plus for me . . . . . but I keep hearing people say the sound of the tr-8 is way better for preforming live . . . . drum brute does not have much life in it with out some pedals added in. I might be wrong but I keep seeing people say this.
