Why was East Coast Hip Hop so generic and boring
Literally
>Yelling about shit with the same boom bap drum over and over again
Too pussy to act like thugs while also lacking the fun of West Coast. And not interesting enough to come up with unique sounds and interesting lyrics like Memphis Rap and most of the south.
Only good classic East Coast albums are Anything Tribe and Illmatic.
Ready To Die, 36 Chambers, ect are whack.

I see what you did there
90s East Coast Hip Hop is like classic rock, it's all about prowess and chops. How loud and high you can sing blues, how fast you can play the pentatonic on the guitar <=> how fast you can rattle off interesting, rhyming ways to say you're really good at killing your opponents over the same dusty boom-bap beats. Every big genre is basically like a big dick-waving contest over technique in its early years.
I should note, I like both these genres and VERY often prefer their simplicity to the more "modern" variations that spun off when people started getting bored. Ready to Die and 36 Chambers are both the polar opposite of wack.
