Why is this album so underrated, both in Bowie's oeuvre and as a stand-alone entity?
It's a great album. Flows amazingly well, has very interesting parts and is his best experimental work.
One of the reasons why the majority of bowie fans don't like this one is because 'the album doesn't have stand-alone songs' which I disagree with ( The Motel).
It's a shame that he didn't complete 2.Contamination. Would've been great.
This and Heathen are probably my favourite albums.
It was kind of a mess. Parts of it were cool but overall it feels like a weird experiment that didn't really work.

it lack two things:
a couple more catchy songs like Hallo Spaceboy
and the other two albums that were supposed to conclude the narrative.

beside the whole 'lack of catchy songs' remark I agree with you. The whole Nathan Adler thing was very interesting. As an album it's great.
