What the hell is going on with this guy?
It's like since he got the Grammy he's been set on churning out graceless, uninspired monstrosities of the "oh-oh-oh!" caliber without a shred of the self-awareness or irony that made his music so iconic.
He's growing old and is a bit stuck in-between styles. Like the rhcp, there's no need for another album, but it gets released anyway.
Morning Phase was a rehash, and the Grammy it received was a latent one that was actually meant for Sea Change ten years earlier.
Modern Guilt was his last album, Volcano a fitting song to close his oeuvre with.

Morning phase out shone sea change. I think morning phase is a modern classic, really forget Odelay, it's an embarrassment.
It's,
One foot in the grave
Mutations
Midnight Vultures
The Information
Morning Phase
and then Song Reader as a surprise

I feel like Morning Phase wasn't grounded enough and it lacked direction. Morning Phase might have outshone Sea Change in production value but not in spirit. Also the latter has Little One on it which is one of my absolute favorite Beck songs.
I feel like even parts of Mutations were better than most of Morning Phase, and if it wasn't constantly reminding you of Odelay it might've actually been a better album overall.
I feel like The Information madness was Peak Beck and everything after that is slowly fizzling out.

But most of all I feel like I used "I feel like" too much and I should read things before posting them.

Sea Change is a bitter album
