What's the appeal of Barrett-era floyd? It doesn't really do anything for me.

it's relatively unpopular so it's hip

more interesting than gilmour and waters masturbating for an hour
It's catchy and syd has an interesting voice. Syd was also a good song writer.

I don't listen to much Barrett Floyd but See Emily Play still holds up as a fantastic little song
Unlike other 60s psychedelic bands, Barrett-era Pink Floyd didn't just make pop/rock with psychedelic effects, but made psychedelic compositions with childish pop/rock songs over it. Ideas like this are what made the experimental psych rock of the late 60s so interesting.
Pink Floyd tried to imitate this and kinda succeeded until Meddle, but after that it never became anything more interesting than pop rock and progressive rock as generic as Rush. It's the Waters-era of Pink Floyd where I never got the appeal of. Except maybe WYWH
Floyd without barret objectively peaked with Meddle. Dark Side obviously being a commercial success it couldn't hold a candle to meddle

kek I fucking love Meddle but this is the most contrarian thing I've heard in a long time

I liked waters too but i agree. Syd had wonderful soundscapes. He truly pianted with sound. His guitar playing was very original too. He played all the wrong notes in the right places but it didnt sound like jazz, just syd.
Probably one of my biggest influences
