ITT: Underrated albums from mainstream artists
this is the best bowie album
I love it but only a fucking idiot with no taste would call it Bowie's best.
>>74760003
what do you think is his best
>>74759907
Bowie’s The Buddha of Suburbia and ‘Hours...’ are very underrated
>>74759907
outside is also underrated desu
also it's better than earthling
>>74760046
shit I forgot about outside, you're probably right its better than earthling. it's a shame we never got the full outside trilogy.
you spelled The Next Day wrong
>>74759907
I think they were using that suit in Nature Boy.
Sinatra never did a cover of nature boy but Nat King Cole is best nature boy.
>>74759907
I was just about to make a thread about how underrated Earthling is. It's great but certainly not his best, that's a three way tie between Ziggy, Low, and Station to Station.
There was a great reissue of it in 2004 which also included the Tao Jones Index tracks.
>>74759907
Bleach is the best nirvana album
>>74760059
It's a real shame he abounded the idea
the closest thing to a Part 2 we'll ever get is that outtake album called Leon
>>74761337
The speed-corrected Leon Suites are pretty decent. I dare say they were abandoned for a good reason, though.
>>74761376
True that, at least they have longer/complete version of the instrumental bits that play during the narrations.
>>74760739
Outside>Blackstar>Earthling>Heathen
>>74760739
Ziggy and Low aren't even top 5, man.
Station to Station, Diamond Dogs and Blackstar are the top.
>>74762076
>ziggy and low aren't even top 5
shit taste, the top 5 in no order would be
>Station to Station
>Low
>Heroes
>Ziggy Stardust
>Blackstar
Scary Monsters is tragically underrated IMO
>>74760739
more like Ziggy-Scary Monsters-S2S
>>74762219
replace Heroes with Scary Monsters.
Diamond Dogs isn't even that good.
>>74762253
>>74762291
honestly forgot about Scary Monsters somehow, I do think it's better than Heroes (which I would say is somewhat overrated, it had an interesting sound but it was rough. A similar sound was executed way better in Station to Station). Diamond Dogs is overrated as fuck, has some great songs but is overall just okay as an album, nowhere near Low, Station to Station, Ziggy, Blackstar, Scary Monsters, or even Heroes.
>>74762422
Is this her Outside?
>>74762431
Seeing as it didn't have a bunch of mediocre songs and filler skits, I'd say no.
1. Reality
2. Low
3. Station To Station
4. Lodger
5. Scary Monsters
Should've been on par with HoL.
>>74759907
It's a decent album but not even in his top ten
>>74760023
Hours is shit and the people on /mu/ that have been talking it up recently need to stop
>>74760046
Outside is great, probably one of my top 5 Bowie albums
>>74762138
"No!"
>>74762225
Yep, also a top 5 Bowie album
>>74762422
Agreed, love this album
>>74762461
>mediocre songs
No Control is the only mediocre song, every other track is good to great
>filler skits
The skits are fucking awful, but the album is 75 minutes long, they're hardly filler
Best Beck album coming thru
>>74763133
The album would have been cut a decent amount without the skits. Also
>Wishful Beginnings
>Good
Buddy....
Not counting the segues, Outside only has one bad song (I am With Name) which itself is attached to a segue. Cut that song and the album is perfect.
>>74763182
Wishful Beginnings is good, I like it for how oppressive it is. It's too long but it's good
>>74763185
>And I've been dreeeaaaming of sleeeeep, and ape men, with metal parts
It's fucking retarded but I like it for hoe goofy it is, the backing vocals are cool, and Mike Garson is a fucking monster on the track as he is all over the track
>>74763157
That's not Mutations or One Foot In The Grave
>>74762461
>filler skits
Ramona's gonna fucking hack your guts for her next art project.
>>74763157
But that's not Guero
>>74762431
More like her Earthling with all the experimentation and simpler sound.
>>74763182
It's definitely Bowie's most experimental album and not all of them paid off, but the ones that work are some of Bowie's best and most musically interesting songs. Stuff like Stranger When We Meet, The Motel, Voyeur of Utter Destruction, and the title track make up for Wishful Beginnings, I Am With Name, and the skits (although the music during the skits is pretty good imo).
>>74763157
That's not Golden Feelings, sorry
>>74763342
>Thinking Odelay lite is the best Beck album
W E W
>>74763157
that's not Sea Change
This is in my top 3 KC and pretty fucking incredible
>>74763346
Strangers When We Meet was undeniably the best song on the album, I'll agree to that.
>>74763473
>>74763429
>>74763342
>>74763268
>>74763157
None of those are The Information
Objective
>>74763448
>best
Most underrated but it holds up against Guero pretty well. It's not lite, more like Odelay 2.0: Electric Boogaloo.
>>74763538
Patrician pick. If only The Flaming Lips did more collabs like that. And speaking of them, pic related for topic's theme.
This is unbelievably underrated.
Easily one of their best
