Anyone else have a hard time answering "What kind of music do you listen to"?

I pretty much just listen to underground electronic genres. I don't want to be a dick and say "you haven't heard of it" but the time it takes to explain "its like ambient but with a focus sub bass and a drum beat bla bla bla" is unbearable.
>>
bro just say: i listen to everything but rap and country, is what everybody does

as long as you're not in high school and are confident about saying it, you can say "i'm really into a lot of stuff, like a b c d, it's kind of this kind of thing"

people tend to find passionate, interested people cool (unless you're talking to a bunch of basic chicks in ugg boots, but why would you do that man?)
>>
I tend to say sometging along the lines of 'I'm in to lots of stuff' and if they ask me to list some stuff I tell them what I've been getting in to lately. Right now its jazz so I'd list some names that stood out to me.

Miles, John, and Herbie.

You just need to come off as not pretentious and people will like you. That's it.
>>
I'm a field recordist.

I usually just say "classical and jazz" as if I do listen to music it tends to be some far out version of either of those.

Just say "ambient". Normies don't even know subgenres like that, and most people won't even know/have heard a real ambient record, but it sounds a lot less pretentious. Just don't a$ap sperg out on them with a bunch of descriptions cause their brains can't handle them.
>>
just be honest and chill.

Ask first, chances are you listen to more stuff, so when the other person says
>I kinda like x, and you?
you respond with the closest thing to x you listen to, leading into decent conversation. Works for me.
>>
Here's my stock response:
>"What kind of music do you listen to"?
I would tell you, but I'm afraid that my intellectual intelligence is far superior to your own, and your claustrophobically small mind wouldn't even comprehend the mere existence of the music I listen to. I bet you're thinking what a pretentious snob I am, but really we are on different planes of existence when it comes to the matter at hand. I know you listen to "whatever you feel like" or "whatever's on the radio" or "everything but rap and country", but I'm afraid that we mean fundamentally different things when we even say the word "music". I mean a life-force, a sound of nature, the creaking of a tree in the wind, which when listened to intently by a gentle aesthete such as myself becomes an Epicurean orgy of life and sound the likes of which you have never and sadly will never experience. By "music" I mean the art of sounds and silence, I mean the wind in a French vineyard or the muffled explosions of war heard from an underground bunker, or the sound of traffic in a Manhattan high street. The mere idea that I could even begin to explain what "music I listen to" is frankly risible when you consider how worlds apart our conception of the idea of something as basic as sound is to begin with. Do you even know what "sound" is? Have you ever heard of a phonon? I thought not. Would that we could engage in an exchange of ideas, then I should do so, but I'm afraid it is impossible. Be gone simple being, I must return to my reverie.

But what if you don't want to shut off all music discussion forever?
>>
>>74679694
I usually just say "mostly rock" and then get more specific of someone asks me to elaborate.
