I'm learning guitar pretty late in life (Early-mid 20's) and I feel really discouraged. I've been at it for over 6 months and i know plenty of chords and a few scales but I still feel like I can't do anything right. I know about justinguitar and such but i feel that he moves too slow. I haven't been practicing as much the last couple weeks (less than an hour a day) because I feel lost and discouraged. Can /mu/ please help me? I pretty much idolize Elliott Smith as a guitar player, as far as style goes but I appreciate many other artists ranging from David Gilmour all the way to Noel Gallagher.

I'm 18 and I wanna play and make music with my gf for fun but I'm lazy and have no drive for most things in life :-(
Don't discourage yourself because your whole attitude and motivation will be shit.
Just have fun with it and keep going.
People develop at their own pace and if yours is slow, who gives a fuck? Just practice.

I've noticed that I can only play and practice the guitar for long periods of time and make progress when I'm practicing with someone else who is at a similar level than me. When I'm alone i just do nothing
Learn songs that you like. It ends up helping you with learning how to tie little bits and pieces together into a song even if you're alone in your room jamming out. Just play and see what sounds good. Practice is one thing but enjoying yourself as you play is another.
