I don't know anything about rap/hip-hop and assumed it was all basically gangsta rap. But I came across this cool nerdy shit, is there anything else really weird/interesting that's not just shallow shit about money and fighting and butts?

Well whenever you're willing to look more into the genre without blindly assuming stuff you'll find a lot more like that.

Perhaps this? I love all his stuff, but these two would probably fit what you want the best I reckon.
If you haven't listened to Deltron 3030 then you are in for a treat.

Just look into Abstract and Experimental Hip Hop, along with Industrial Hip Hop and you'll be happy. You should listen to
El-P
Aesop Rock
MF Doom
Techno Animal
Saul Williams
Cannibal Ox
etc.
Also gangsta rap, and rap that deals with gang violence, and drugs isn't even a bad thing. I love Memphis rap like Three 6 Mafia, and Koopsta Knicca, and there's plenty of hip hop albums that have similar lyrics that are good like Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, UGK. Also a lot of old school Boom Bap have good lyricism like Big Pun, Big L, Gza, Nas, etc.
