reminder that "art rock" is a term plebs invented to make themselves feel better about listening to pop
Nah it's art bitch
>>74598830
but none of that is pop music
>>74598830
This.
>>74598842
>>74598896
Nope it's all popular music and will never ever come close to touching art music.
I hate the term art x its up there with idm in terms of pretentious
any creative effort is art
stop making art synonymous with the word good you retards
>>74598896
All of thosr albums are pop because all rock is pop. No rock is art rock because all rock is art. /mu/ has really gone down the tubes
>>74598969
>doesn't know that art music is an academic term
>>74598982
Thinking that because something is academic it is infallible is incredibly dangerous thinking and borders on anti science.
you idiots are all fucking retarded
>>74599003
>doesn't know what purpose the term serves in the realm of academia; then proceeds to not look it up and instead spouts stupid bullshit
How embarassing
>>74598830
>>74598951
>>74598981
I'd say Kid A is second or third wave post-punk
>>74599003
>thinking a genre exists means you hate science
>>74599013
You aren't arguing my point at all. I'm not a music major so I only have a vague idea of how the term "art music" is used in academia outside of the distinction between it, traditional music, and pop music and referring primarily to western classical, if you want to be expand on that I'd be happy to learn more.
I still think it's a pretentious term but my gripe is more so with genres being labeled art rock art rap art pop etc
>>74598969
It's not a label meant to discredit other music.
It's a subgenre of rock in which the artist had intent beyond the typical thematics or composure of other albums.
>>74599059
Oh no, I agree. The whole 'Art *insert pop music genre*' thing is dumb as fuck, because it's not true art music.
>>74598830
I don't care that it's pop.
I acknowledge 1, 2, 5, and arguably 4 are pop.
They're still brilliant.
All music is art except metal.
This thread is GOOOD
If popular music is "music with wide appeal", would stuff like noise rock or any very inaccessible rock music still be popular music?
