I know that feel. I'll try to play something with a regular beat and nice friendly timbres and innofensive major harmony and get that reaction. It made me realize it's not that they're actually put off by things that sound weird, it's actually that their whole conception of what is normal is just a direct reference to whatever the current corporate music trend is. If obnoxious popstar dance tracks are in style, that's what "normal" is for them, if they've been convinced that trap is cool and good, that's what's "normal" for them, etc.

The problem I have with my friends is that the one who has been on /mu/ before but only listens to radiohead etc will hate on me for listening to anything that's "weird" like Swans but I've literally convinced him that some Swans songs are Pink Floyd rarities with a different singer.
