/emoe/ thread- "why is there never an emo thread?" edition

post emo, r8, h8, talk

I'm looking for more bands that are a nice middle ground between full on screamo and the lighter stuff, like indian summer and old gray, and am thinking of rewatching nge, any thoughts on either endeavor?
>>
>>74595446
don't rewatch nge if youre in a depressed mood, it's a recipe for disaster
>>
>tfw even though you loved emo back in 2014, you almost never posted in /emoe/

Whatcha guys think of this?
>>
Anybody have some emocore reccs?
Also feel free to rewatch NGE unless you are on a depressive mood, otherwise watch some cute happy shit
>>
>>74595466
should i start watching evangelion
all i know about it is that everyone on /cm/ go apeshit over the white-haired boy. is he gay?
isn't it a fucking long show, too
>>
>>74595660
if 26 episodes and a movie is long for you then ye
you really should watch it though
>>
>>74595562
Honestly, really great. Fun sort of emo where it's not just pure sadness but also a pretty sarcastic self critique, and I quite like their sense of humor. They do wear their influences on their sleeve, but I can see them making some good stuff.
>>
>>74595660
it was just very comfy for some reason, despite everyone saying its deep and really sad, for me it was mostly pleasantly cheesy, something to watch in bed you know, not long at all

It's my favorite show. It's very complicated and emotionally severe too though, so if you don't want to be confused and butt-annihilated steer clear. It was a game changer as far as anime goes though.
It's not a /cm/ type of show but fags on the internet will literally sexualize anything. Commenting on his sexuality would be a spoiler, although it's nothing like what you think. If you're considering watching it for him, you should know he doesn't come in until like 20 episodes in anyway.

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

Hey, i actually wanted a place to vent my disappointment for this album, they had an interesting sound going on in Lomas Verdes (much more interesting than their juvenile demo) but this album is such a let down since it feels like they just went the hyperview route to cash in from a wider audience rather than pushing that sound they achieved in Lomas Verdes.
Of course the album has personal passionate lyrics and a couple of good songs, but overall it was really disappointing since it ended up being just another boring indie rock/shoegazy sounding, reverb filled album, just like hyperview and that turnover album.

Also they never have their coolest shirts in stock in that crappy e-store.

>>
>>74598656
Yo why the fuck did the third track on this album completely fuck itself over with reverb? WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT?!
>>
>>74596321
The next step you want to take isn't really 100% emo. If you're looking for the chill atmosphere of american football, check out toe. Specifically check out their album The book about my idle plot on a vague anxiety. It has a jazzier feel to it, but it captures that same comfortable feeling with all the twinkles you want and then some. Also, not sure if duster is even emo, but it makes me feel sad. Check out dusters album Christmas Dust . That album has a lot of the same repetition that American Football has but not as much twinkle tho.
>>
>>74601072
I agree it would be better without the reverb but it's still pretty good

FLCL, shoutouts to the soundtrack, if you know Japanese - or care to read the lyrics - it can get pretty emo at times (Last Dinosaur, for example, has "No matter where I go/or who I stand before/I just want to be myself" as a main lyric).

Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei and Welcome to the NHK! if you're into absurdist humour. The Tatami Galaxy should be right up /emoe/'s alley, too.

IDK, just some pretty basic stuff.

To be honest it is exactly what I expected from them, and I think the main issue here is it came too late, they have been doing what they show in that record for a couple years now, like since LV dropped. it's like they start approaching a certain style and then make an album out of it instead of being the opposite, like even before LV they were already picking up the post-rock influece rather than the math of the demo (this also has to do with a member leaving), anyway, I still love them and yeah merch (and their marketing in general) is kinda problematic, like the last shirts they put out have a weird fit, they are too small.

Yeah i reckon their post rock influences started somewhere between their demo and Lomas Verdes, even appearing in their single released songs like OJH or in that split with zeta, which coincidentally was the time when that long haired dude left the band, and taking with him the more strictly clean-math rock sounds from the demo with him.

I don't know if they were showing this much of a change in their style in their later live shows since they haven't toured near here in a while and outside of a couple of specific yt videos the rest are phone recorded shit, so there was no way for me to expect this new sound, i'm all for a band expanding its sound and trying new stuff, but still it wouldn't make a difference at all in my judgement, it felt like they were on to something with LV and this new LP doesn't sound like a progression at all, since they took a kinda lame reverby indie rock approach, feels less consistent than all of their previous works and as i said, it looks more like a cashout than rather a succession to their previous work.
It's not that i outright hated their album but around half of the songs in D'arcy are extremely boring and aside from the cocteau twins song and maybe the opener, the rest is either generic or too unremarkable to keep my attention.

Thanks for the tip on the merch btw, i'll keep that in mind if they ever restock the XII shirt lmao.

yeah man it really is not a progression, but still I think it's a logical conclusion to what they've been doing in the last couple years, I mean the hate/dislike for their change has been there for a while when they refuse to play their twinkly stuff and go full post-rock and even shoegaze or decide to cover an indie rock classic and well, they look comfortable doing so and in fact they are, when you talk to them it's clear what they're into now and at the end of the day the band is just a way to express themselves. where you at? I'm actually close to where they are from hehe

oh and that waas for the white shirts, I think the black ones are still from the same brand that fit so well, I'm just looking at their store and now they have longsleeves for the one I got (P&P) and also a white version of the ice cream one so maybe it's time to update my collection lel

I wasn't aware of them refusing to play their twinkly stuff live lol, they have all the right to do so and if they feel like going down that direction it's okay to me i guess, still since it was a considerable change in their sound, they should expect people showing up at their shows with the intention of listening to their twinkly or even their LV songs.

Aside from that they look like p chill dudes so it'd be cool if they succeded a bit mainstream-wise so they could cash in a bit.

gonna plug one of my favorite underrated releases this year from a band called del paxton. trio from buffalo ny, saw them at some small local show a few years ago and really dug their music, they finally dropped an lp earlier this year. highly recommend. some cool intricate guitar stuff that doesn't feel played out like a lot of other "twinkly" albums. tons of potential imo, wish they had more exposure outside of the buffalo music scene

There's literally nothing wrong with indie pop punk. Mainstream pop punk is shit. I barely even listen to pop punk.
>>
>>74610421
I loved their EP but find World Of Grief just kinda meh. It has a more post-hardcore vibe than the twinkly/midwest vibe of the EP.
>>

world of grief is much better. circle thinking is just straight [scr]emo(violence), but solid
world of grief to be is deconstructive and experimental, and shows of ashton's guitar and nicole's vocals a lot better
i dont think either has a twinkly vibe tho

he's just a new sort of movement that I think is cool

lil peep makes music that I like

Glad we're finally getting somewhere. I don't know much music terminology nor do I rate music. I've only listened to a few of the albums you've listed. Perhaps I was projecting a bit, my bad. My chart was just my past seven days I listen to a lot of obscure stuff also, both new and old. Not that it matters anyways, I do enjoy the new sorority noise and I don't consider them to be "boring" nor "derivative", sure there's plenty of boring midwest emo bands. I just listened to a lot of broken media bands back in the day.
