I have been working on this song... It's basically E-D-G-A structure with progressive filaments in between. I have tempo changes so that verse is 120 bpm but chorus goes to 180 bpm and then drops to 60 bpm while I solo some crazy stuff.

I don't get why people say he isn't good because he plays fast... If he plays fast i'm pretty certain he could play anything the slower guitarists you love play, i'd also bet that those guitarists couldn't play most of Yngwie's songs. So if anything he is a fantastic guitar player, you'd have to be retarded to say he isn't. Yes you may not like his style or his sound, but calling him a bad guitarist is stupid... Especially when many professional guitarists praise him, and I think they'd know a thing or two about guitar. As for saying he lacks feeling? The guy has been playing guitar for 40 years or more, plus he was in a car crash and basically had to learn how to use one of his hands entirely from scratch... How you can sit there and say someone who has spent their entire life playing guitar 'has no feeling' is beyond me. He clearly loves music otherwise he would've settled down years ago.

What is a decent pedal for primarily death metal music? I play a lot of single note riffs, double picked stuff and leads so I'm not looking for something super chunky. Most of the youtube comparisons I've watched have been nonstop chugging "riffs" and haven't helped much.
>>
>>74578543
Pedal train is shit and expensive. It's entirely too easy for people to fall/step on because it's just a bare board, and then suddenly I have fuckin UFOs flying around the room during a 90 second hardcore song because some idiot fucked up the tap tempo on my RE-20 and faceplanted on my flanger.

Nice! I didn't expect this kind of quality from /gg/ at all. How or where did you get the backing track?
>>
>>74581252
Just get demo of Amplitube or Bias FX and play with those unless you play in band. Then, you'll need a rack mounted fx processor and 2 stacks of Marshalls anyway.
>>
>>74581252
You want good amp distortion for metal, an OD pedal is secondary to just slightly tighten it up a bit

>>74581286
Thanks. I recorded it and programmed the drums
>>
>>74581252
Just get an amp with a solid gain sound. Get a 5150, you can usually find them pretty cheap on ebay. Or a 6505MH if you're strapped for cash.
>>
>>74581252
I like anything that tries to sound like a plexi: Friedman BE-OD, Mad Professor 1, Wampler Pinnacle, pedals of that nature.
>>
>>74581303
This is something what I would love to do as well. But I have immense problems matching the tempo to original track. I was doing tests with Megadeth's Holy Wars and the tempo is 167bpm more or so, the click track matches for the first part of the song. But after few bars the click track starts to drift. And the song is 4/4 time for sure. I don't know if they have edited the song in studio or what the hell is going on but I have huge trouble with that song. Or is the drummer just fucking it up? Also need to remember the original song was still recorded on analog tape and only edited in protools as that was early 90s.
>>
>>74581280
Post UFO shred.
>>
>>74581356
People didn't record to click tracks very often back in the day, so there's natural ebb and flow in the tempo. For tracking covers on old songs, just take an estimate of the bpm and stick with it. Or if you're especially anal about it you can listen to the original track while tapping out a tempo map in your DAW, that way your midi drums will line up more true to the original. I wouldn't waste effort on that though
>>
>>74581296
>>74581303
>>74581316
>>74581331
Thanks. I actually have a Mesa Single Rectifier so I might try out an OD pedal on it and see how it sounds.
>>
>>74581402
On high tempo song like that it's bit of a pain in the ass to create a tempo map. But I think I'll probably just stick with the estimation. Because everything what I do is shit anyway. And besides I think that band's next album, Countdown to Extinction was their first fully digitally recorded album, might do a test just out of curiosity to see if I can do a quick match for some of the songs on that album easier.
>>
>>74581475
Rectifier should be good enough. Tube screamer or similar and then bit of EQ to the end to scoop out mids and stuff like that.

It depends of your natural incline. Some people have better built-in quality control and you might be pretty well off after a year. For some other people one year doesn't get them anywhere and they are still sloppy and all. But generally learning guitar is a lifelong process and you can't never ask 'are we there yet' because there's always something to learn.

scooping is where you turn it to 0. Guitar is a mid range instrument so scooping the mids means you don't cut through the mix very well as your treble blends with the cymbals and snare of a drum kit and your bass will blend with the bass guitar bass drum etc.

aka its a retarded buzzword used by morons who want to sound knowledgeable about guitars

Stupid question but here it goes:

I'm looking to buy a metronome, what do you guys recommend?
I'm thinking something electronic that has a tapping function and some visual ques or something.

I know this is a stupidish question, but sometimes a little more money can get you a much better product. Like when I bought a Boss TU-01 tuner compared to a cheapo one, it was just faster and much more accurate.

Practice triads and you'll play like that in a few years.
>>
>>74585865
with a teacher, but i still remember how i do it.

Its as easy and non misterious as its slow.

First understand rythm

then know which note is each in the pentagram.

start doing sheet music which has finger indication so you dont get lost on the fretboard

once you did a bout a million start doing them without the note indication

at first you will have to read note per note and one staff will take a billion years, keep at it and it will get easier

try to memorize chord shapes

I want to get better with guitar, I don't mind practicing (I don't have much time either). I have books, I have links, what I don't have is a fuckin way to walk and get somewhere. so I make a routine, it doesn't work.
another one. too much scales.
another one. too much technique, too little "music"

it was more of a vain thing than trying to make it sound better

but now i and understand that a bar chord is just as easy as a power chord

but i dont know what a power chord benefits over a bar chord?
like.. what are the actual differences and when would i use either of them?

Not necessarily true. Hendrix knew what key he was playing in, knew at least major and minor pentatonic scales in multiple positions, obviously understood rhythm and time signatures since many of his songs played with time signatures. Music theory is a very broad subject and virtually no one knows it all.

>Ask Eddie how to get that brown sound and you'll fuck up your amp following his advice.

Actually this is wrong, all EVH did to any of his amps was use a variac to lower the voltage going into his Marshalls and he had a crude effects loop device installed between his preamp and power amp.
