I just listened to this album for the first time twice back to back. It was my first time listening to any of Phil's work. I haven't seen it on /mu/ in a while so I assume its not too redundant to make a thread about it, but holy fuck I just need to talk about it. I've pondered death for many years but have never experienced a really significant loss in my life except for the passing of my grandfather almost 3 years ago, and this album really just put me right back where I was then and there. I think its extraordinary that Phil was able to so richly depict his emotions and trauma, and I've never had such a cathartic experience with music as I did with this record.
What are your guys' thoughts?
not as good as carrie and lowel

Fuck off, that's not why I made this thread.

Never heard anything like it. It's not even an album really. Took me two sittings to listen to it, sobbed the whole time. The music was just an afterthought, it's basically just half an hour of you listening to a guy tell you intimate details of his wife's death.
Great release, I wouldn't necessarily listen to it a lot but it's an amazing record.

>The music was just an afterthought
I know what you mean. I couldn't even continuously pay attention to the instrumentation at times just because of how much I was absorbed into the experiences I felt like I was almost living in through his lyrics. I couldn't even think about what mood the instruments were portraying just because the lyrics are just so unforgiving I felt totally consumed.
Real Death made me cry like a fucking child

Yeah I'm definitely going to I just needed to get sleep before I did anything else.

I liked it better back in 2009 when it was called Hospice

Real Death pulled no fucking punches and made his entire life and career seem pointless. God damn is that an amazing track. Made me cry too
Clear Moon is superior

>this is what plebs actually believe
Crow is about 100X more interesting. C&L has to be one of the most overrated releases in a long time, such a fucking sterile unambitious project. Honestly one of Sufjan's weaker efforts.
