I think there's lots of great music that uses noise, like Lightning Bolt. But if it's just noise like merzbow, I don't see the appeal personally. 1930 has a couple cool moments on it. Pulse Demon is just...noise.

Noise might sound like a samey genre for plebs, but every artists has a different approach
Merzbow focuses on massive walls of distortion and his junk "guitar" that runs through a Roland fuzz wah, which has always been essential to his music
Kazumoto Endo uses killswitch to create dynamics and contrast
Whitehouse wants to sound industrial, the distorted vocals give something for the casual listener to hold onto
Incapacitants were pioneers for wall noise
Masonna uses only a microphone for source input, therefore his noise is high-pitched

Sundsvall Power Electronics is still rather active. Sc or yt: alfarmania. The guy who ran Survival Unit found a style that was rather harsh but still cosy with not too mutch ear-abuse. I like some noise and power electronics but have never liked HNW. I think the new boring bandcamp styled noise is crap mostly. Alderen deep and einhorn on bandcamp have found a well balanced sound that I like.

Listen to Hybrid Noisebloom. It has some of the coolest textures I've heard in the genre. I'd also rec Aqua Necromancer and Door Open at 8 AM. Merz makes some interesting material. People just get hung up on Pulse Memein' because it's spammed to watch noise neophytes' reactions. Early Merzbow is also cool. Just think of how much harder it'd be to produce interesting, distinct noise albums before the digital era.

I don't see why people shit on Pulse Demon. I was listening to this stuff way before /mu/ and I always thought Pulse Demon and Red Magnesia Pink were his best synth-heavy noise albums.
