when did /mu/ grow out of punk? for me it was when i first heard post-punk via joy division.
I don't think I'll ever grow out of punk. There's too much to be angry at, and a lot of punk connects with that emotion for me. I may enjoy post-punk more, but punk by itself is still something that helps me get through very rough moments.
Although I've never liked the Sex Pistols. I dunno, I just don't. Might have to do with listening to PiL before I got around to Never Mind The Bollocks and finding NMTB lacking.

But killing joke and PiL are the better post punk band
I never got into punk at all. I pretty much went straight to post-punk. There's still some hardcore and crust that I have fun with, but punk will never be my go-to genre.

It depends on what you want out of the music, really. Experimental, dub-influenced post-punk? PiL's first few albums are a godsend. More goth-y post-punk? Killing Joke's your best friend. Music to soundtrack your own depression? Joy Division.
why do you think my ringtone is disorder?
I still think Disintegration is my favorite post-punk album, though. Not the best, I'm sure, I haven't listened to every post-punk album so I can't judge that, but it's a goddamn great album and helped me survive a very rough period of my life.
I got into post-punk well before I got into punk, thanks to discovering The Cure and Siouxsie & The Banshees when I was like 14 or 15.
I got into punk later. I wouldn't say I grew out of it and there's still dozens of punk bands I hold in high regard, I just eventually came to find the vast majority of it to be too stylistically narrow and one-dimensional for my tastes.

i set it first because i enjoyed the song
but now it motivates me to answer faster so people don't hear my ringtone
If you "grew" out of punk when you heard post-punk, then you've been doing punk wrong the whole fucking time. There are punk bands that are every bit as visionary and creative as any post-punk.
Here, I made this. These are good, though when I update it I may remove that Electro Hippies album.

I got into punk (anarcho punk) through post punk and not the other way around
