I don't understand the appeal of them here, are you all just really happy bastards?
Listen to Caroline, No.

Beach Boys are much more than Surfin' USA
Go listen to Pet Sounds, it's depressing as fuck
>>74476158
>happy
Beach boys are essential sadboi-core because muh Brian Wilson. Even the happy stuff sounds sad when you look at it from a certain angle.
I'm a depressed sad cunt and they're one of my favorite bands.
>>74476158
>happy
No, actually pet sounds made me suicidal
>>74476158
listen to an assortment of their best singles from before pet sounds, then pet sounds, then smile, then pet sounds 5 more times, then some of brian's later works, then pet sounds 100 more times, then cry for brian

Listen to pet sounds. It sounds happy at first but once you listen to it more and more it becomes increasingly depressing.

There's no need to go full depression. Pet Sounds is depressing enough, and is also a far superior album.
>>74476158
Their early stuff is hot garbage. So is their late stuff. It's their middle period (1966-1973 with some exceptions) that their music became artistically competent, much more than "LE SURF GIRLS CARS LMAOOO". Try the song 'Til I Die to get an idea of what you're in for.

>Pet Sounds is depressing enough
Well no, not really.
>also a far superior album.
No, it is not.
>>74478455
t. fag with bad taste
>>74478537
>he actually likes surf-era Beach Boys
You're the only fag here, friendo.
>>74478455
pre-pet sounds beach boys > 1967 onward beach boys
Are you even a brian wilson fan?
>>74478586
That's not me, but they do actually have many good singles from that period.
>>74478587
I did say "some exceptions" (that exception being Today) but if enjoying their early work is what qualifies someone as being a Brian Wilson fan, then I suppose I'm not. Personally I find most of their pre-Pet Sounds material obnoxious, but they do have a couple of good singles scattered here and there. I wouldn't say they had a whole lot, though.
>>74478689
>good pop songs are bad because they don't conform to my projected self-image of a deep emotional True Fan(tm) of music
Neck yourself.
am literally checking out their older stuff as i stumble upon this thread. Listen to "In My Room." Pet Sounds album. Smile, etc.
>>74478745
Ok, will do.
I don't think elitism is what makes me dislike those songs, though. They fail to bring about any good moods in me. Instead they give me second-hand embarrassment, and I can't quite point out why.
>implying they are strictly happy music
Listen to Pet Sounds again holy shit
