I have a serious question. Please don't make this political or anything. I'm just talking about the music. I hate myspace scene kid shit, and I hate rap/hip-hop almost equally. I hate them for a lot of the same reasons. They're both edgy and juvenile. Neither genre is particularly good from a technical or musical standpoint. They're both samey and formulaic. They both mostly appeal to kids in high school. Here's the difference. Scene shit is ignored by the music world. It exists in a little bubble of its own. Reviewers don't talk about it. Fantano doesn't review it. Pitchfork doesn't review it. They just pretend it doesn't even exist. Most record stores don't even carry it. I never see fucking Chiodos CDs or records at my local record store. Within the world of music, it's like it doesn't even exist. Hip-Hop is fucking everywhere, and it's the more simplistic of the two genres. If you're having a serious music discussion with somebody, and you name drop Pierce The Veil or something, they'll probably instantly disregard your opinion. Talking about Drake or something is acceptable, though? Drake is also for sad 15 year old white girls. You're an edgleord if you mention some garbage like Motionless In White, but "Straight Outta Compton," the album that has a song called "Fuck The Police" is considered a classic? It's not edgy to listen to that? Is it because 15 year old scene girls who like Black Veil Brides are cringey as fuck? Isn't Eminem cringey? Isn't most 90s gangsta rap cringey?
TL;DR why does Hip-Hop get a free pass?
These are both equally cringey to me, like mirror images of each other.
>both genres are cringefests
>one gets a free pass
I'll give you a hint: black and white
The cringe in rap is tolerated because that's their culture.
