Childhood is when you idolize Ian Curtis
Adulthood is realising Hooky makes more sense

Then comes the enlightened period where you realise that Ian Curtis' lyrics and persona and their unique production style (which wasn't down to them) was the only thing setting them apart from other similar bands at the time and that bands such as a certain ratio did the same thing but with tons better instrumentation and with better unique qualities

a certain ratio is boring as shit
post-punk has been my favorite genre of music since i was in high school but don't try to claim that most of their contemporaries even compared to joy division. you really have to sift through bands to find good ones because the late 70s post-punk era produced a lot of boring samey shit

A certain ratio started as good JD rips with graveyard and the ballroom but really made the style their own on to each with horn section and stylistic bass
I'm not saying JD are bad, as a lot of contrarian arseholes do, but to say hook was stand out within post-punk is just bullshit
