This just came in for me. Bought it back in May, took three months

>>74427621
Just bought my first vinyl yesterday after wanting to get into it for years (Floral Shoppe, might cop Human Story 3 and Dream Castle as well).

My mom gave me her old collection the other day too, which was pretty cool. Found a few concert bootlegs in there, but the artist's names have lost me now.

Discogs is pretty much the biggest for buying used or new vinyl, but I've heard some negative things, like with everywhere you buy from people and not companies.

< Most prized possesion
>>
>>74427892
The thing about Discogs (and other marketplaces really) is how some sellers overrate used vinyl, like rating a G+ vinyl as VG+. Otherwise buying new records were never an issue for me, plus PayPal disputes if anything goes wrong.
>>
preordered the Floral Shoppe LP

shit I want this so bad
how do you store it?

if i lost my entire collection except for one record

You gotta work it in there at an angle, just like in the picture. It helps a lot if your furniture or boxes have plenty of space vertically.

You also have to insert the record with the same angle, but it's so worth it.
>>
>>74427663
lmao weren't you just complaining in a thread yesterday that you hadn't received it

I don't feel like taking a picture but I bought King Crimson's Discipline on vinyl a few days ago along with some CD's.

a couple highlights from the past week or so. Yeah, Aenima is a bootleg. Still ebays for $100+ though lol, and it sounds good enough. I've always had a soft spot for this album but im not about to drop $300 on an original

Hello Young Lovers I got for $20. Pink vinyl. Fucking steal. "a couple skips on side A" nope.

tfw I saw acquiring the taste and self titled months ago when I didn't listen to gentle giant's earlier stuff yet and I didn't get them

tfw they were gone the next time I went
>>
>>74430908
Misses like that are part of why I got so trigger happy with buying stuff. At least take solace in knowing that neither were probably OG and you could probably find the same pressings on discogs for even cheaper

Honestly, I don't recommend buying used vinyl online unless there's pretty much zero chance of finding it in a store. Here's why:

-Sellers overgrading is a serious problem. I'm not joking, if you buy a record graded NM, expect VG+ or worse. Even sellers with 100% positive feedback do this, because I think most buyers don't care about the grade or don't feel like dealing with a dispute if they disagree with it. It's gotten to the point where in the rare instance where I need to buy something online, I only buy NM because VG+ is the most misunderstood grade ever, and buying anything below VG+ is a complete gamble and not worth dealing with. That said, there are a few sellers who actually grade properly, but they are few and far between in my experience. (A small tip -- if a seller has the majority of their listings as NM when everything is pretty old, I'd be very apprehensive to buy from them -- it's unlikely that everything is NM!)

-When you factor in shipping prices, lower priced vinyl can quickly become expensive online. That $5 record becomes $10, the $10 becomes $15, and so on. It's not as good of a deal as it seems.

-This point is completely irrelevant, but getting a musty, slightly beat up, clearly sitting in a basement for 40 years record in the mail feels kind of disgusting and very unsatisfying.

I recommend sticking to local stores for used vinyl, but if you must buy online, pretty much your only options are eBay and Discogs. MusicStack used to be pretty good, but most everyone has since moved on to the former two places. You'll probably get the best deals via eBay auctions, but a lot of sellers don't grade there, so be careful. Both eBay and Discogs use Paypal so there's essentially no risk as a buyer anyway.
>>
>>74431338
Grading is usually a gamble, yeah, but I feel like at least on discogs I get about as many undergraded records as I do overgraded ones.

Recent pickups
-Urgh! A Music War, classic live post punk compilation
-Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen, smooth 80's pop but good with some nice synths
-XTC - Limelight, decent single
-Psychedelic Furs - Pretty in Pink 12', 1981 version, not the rerecording
-Bauhaus - 4AD, 1983 EP with Dark Entries and a cover of Telegram Sam
-Some single that was on AmRep, haven't played it yet and only bought cause of the label
-Ultravox - Vienna, really disappointed with this, loved the debut but couldn't get through this one
-Sparks - Kimono My House, don't like this one as much as I thought I would but still decent
>>
>>74435655
I'm on Cape Cod. And yeah, I was surprised it was that cheap too. Not complaining though. It was never there when I looked before, and the guy at the register looked at it and seemed confused; "looks different..." (feigning ignorance in selling me a bootleg maybe?). Guess I should check to see if they get any more. It was sealed so it's not like someone brought it in used
>>
>>74436034
Shit man, that's wild. I've found some boots at the one near me, but I've never come across this one. I just can't pay the costs they end up going for on eBay. I wish there was a way to get a copy here in ohio

Good luck with KC. I've worked at a store for 2.5 years and RARELY see their stuff. I've managed to get ITCOCK, In the Wake of Poseidon, Islands, and Discipline, but still so many left to find. Unless you're okay with reissues

>Enjoy your lower dynamic range masters
That's a rare occasion. CDs have a wider range for dynamics than vinyls do and also do not have the physical limitations regarding bass and treble levels as vinyl does. In addition, CDs are capable of stereo sound without compromises like vinyl's stereo cutting method.

>and disc rot
Only happens if you're a complete retard that doesn't take care of discs. CDs are far more durable than a media format that easily warps and collects dust in grooves.
