Evergrey and Opeth have a certain sound to them that is similar; they don't stick to the usual metal tropes. A large part of this is because they're prog metal.

Just looking for something similar. Where they go from a hard metal sequence straight into a smooth jazz or piano rendition.

I assume you're familiar with Opeth, so listen to the above Evergrey song to get an idea of what I mean when I say that I am looking for bands in the same "vain."

I tried Dark Tranquility, and I do like a few of their tracks, but overall they seemed to be a lot more amateur.
