Poison Season totally blew me away and is easily my favourite album of the decade so far. This sounds great and I am excited for the album.

Work backwards maybe? iirc his earlier work is not that much oriented to sophiti-pop but it isn't as overloaded like Posion Season was. Maybe check out Streethawk: A Seduction.

Are you being ironic? The first half of this song could have easily fit on Whiteout Conditions, and Dan's songs are always the slightly off ones anyway so the entire thing wouldn't be too difficult to see along with Newman's songs.

Try Your Blues. It's got to be his most pared down work, he uses mostly wierd MIDI sounds, but it makes for a fantastic and unique album, it's one of my favorites.

In an attempt to hold on to this feeling, I decided to lift the original title of that song and use it for my own purposes. It’s unclear to me what that purpose is, or what the connection is. I was not thinking about Suede when making this record. I was thinking about the last few years of the Thatcher era. Those were the years when music first really came at me like a sickness, I had it bad. Maybe “The Wild Ones” speaks to that feeling, probably why Suede made no sense in America. Whiteout Conditions as a whole is a lot more energetic than this song, and Newman said Bejar wanted to write slower and serene songs for his new record.

And even his slightly off songs keep up with the sonic palette, what makes them stand out most of the time are the lyrics (Chump Change is the best example of what I'm talking about).

Trouble In Dreams is really strong, some people seem to underrate it including Bejar himself but I love it. Once you start getting deeper into his stuff you'll probably end up enjoying everything he's done in different ways.

New song sounds pretty good, not immediately struck by it but I bet the album's gonna be awesome. I felt similarly luke warm about the slower Poison Season tracks but a lot of the stuff has grown on me.

Also everyone who hasn't listened to Swan Lake and needs more Bejar, both of those albums are killer.

I imagine nobody agrees but I think City of Daughters through Streethawk is his best work, followed by Poison Season.

I'm thinking of that line in "Grief Point" where he says "The message from the critical reception of Dreams..." but after going back to look at it I realize he doesn't say anything negative about it himself, I think i just created that in my head haha.
